GROSS, Nancy Marie (Scott), age 87, passed away on Sunday, November 1st, 2020 at her home in Miamisburg surrounded by family. Nancy was born July 7th, 1933 in Sparta, Randolph County, Illinois and was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Paul E. Gross.

She was born and raised in Sparta, Illinois as the youngest of 8 children and graduated from Sparta High School. She met her future husband, Paul, at the Dreamland Café, in Sparta, where he was stationed at the Scott Air Force base, and they married in 1951. After being stationed in Alaska, the couple located to Montgomery County, Ohio in 1953.

Nancy was a remarkable mother. She encouraged each of her children to pursue their individual interests and loved spending time with her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She had a vivacious personality, often sitting at the kitchen table talking with her children and their friends for hours. As a homemaker, she spent many summer hours canning vegetables grown in the large family garden. Her favorite meal of all time was a fresh tomato sandwich with mayonnaise. She was an avid reader of the daily newspaper, as well as books, frequenting the public library often. The bookcase in her room reflects an array of her favorite fiction writers. Nancy cared for many stray cats and dogs through the years. Her pets brought her much comfort in her life.

Nancy is survived by her children, Carol (Michael) Hunter, Beverly (Mark) Malabrigo, Barbara (John) Gross; and, James Kent (Wyntre) Gross; grandchildren, Beth Hunter, Victoria Malabrigo, Nathan Gross, Zachary Gross, and Aryn Wickline; and great-grandchildren; Brian, Alice and Ava; and many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

Preceded in death by her parents, Burwell Carter & Eugenia Estelle (Gentry) Scott; her siblings; Mary Wittenborn, Agnes Wilson, Reba Ledbetter, Mable Bird, Alvin “Buddy” Scott, Dorothy Guyton & Bertha Hargis.

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last days who became like family to us all…our gratitude for their loving care cannot be expressed enough! Nancy’s memorial service will be Friday, November 20, 2020 at GEBHART-SCHMIDT-PARRAMORE Funeral Home, Miamisburg, with visitation at 6:30pm and the Memorial Service at 7:00pm. Nancy was a close friend of my sister Bettie Stolze Baue. Remember Bertha and Nancy well. Bettie passed away two years ago. So sorry for your loss.

Nancy and I shared a plan to keep her beloved geranium plants alive for the winter. I went to pick them up today not knowing she had passed away. Now I have her plants to treasure with my memories of her. One of the dearest women I have ever known... we shared a love of cats. My condolences to her family. Happy she is with Paul!

I loved Nancy very much. She was first, and foremost, my good friend. I could always count on Nancy for anything. She loved her family very much, and in her own Nancy way, she loved me too. She stood up for me when everyone else turned their backs on me. I will never forget her. She was a very special lady and I put her in my mind in the same way that I do Reva Gross Byrd: wonderful role models. You will be sorely missed, Nancy! Prayers for all the family. ❤️

I got the pleasure of spending time with Nancy over the last several months as her Caregiver. Nancy was full of stories and so eager to share so many wonderful memories with me .
I will forever hold the memory of her smile deep in my heart . (And the image of that Pointing finger lol ) . It was truly my pleasure to have gotten to know her . She is deeply missed .

So many early childhood and teenage memories with this family. I love them all and wish them all peace during this difficult time and always.
Many inspirational conversations with this special woman helped me during my early adult life. And whose LOVE for animals has always been such a glowing and apparent attribute. I always considered Nancy to be a “very cool” parental figure and she has always maintained my respect.
Love and miss you and you’re very unique style and Grace ❤️❤️
