Richard William Oldham Sr.

Richard W. Oldham, Sr. — known to everyone as Dick — 85, of Miamisburg, Ohio, passed away on July 28, 2026, at Kettering Hospital, with his family by his side. He had a wonderful, full life, and he made sure everyone around him felt like family, too.

Dick was born December 2, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Bartram Richard Oldham and Rita (Carton) Oldham. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, Class of 1962, and cooking became his life's work and his favorite way of showing people he cared. He moved to Dayton in the fall of 1975 and served as Director of Food Service for the Sisters of the Precious Blood at Maria Joseph Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and from there went on to help other hospitals and healthcare facilities with their food service as well, before retiring.

He and Mary Jane Rubino were married for 63 years. Together they raised their sons, Richard Jr. and David Michael, and from there his family just kept growing — grandkids, then great-grandkids, and he loved every one of them. Being "Grandpa" suited him.

Dick was a longtime member of Our Lady of Good Hope Parish in Miamisburg, and belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Culinary Institute of America Alumni Association. He was the original founder of the Miamisburg High School (MHS) Soccer Association and spent years coaching youth sports around Miamisburg. He held University of Dayton Basketball season tickets since 1991 and rarely missed a game. He loved fishing, and he loved cruising with family and his dear friends Tom and Rosalie Scheper. But mostly, Dick just loved cooking for people and having his family around him — that was who he was.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Jane (Rubino) Oldham; his son Richard Jr. and daughter-in-law Renee Oldham of Goodyear, Arizona; his son David Michael and daughter-in-law Tammy Oldham of Amelia Island, Florida; grandchildren Maria Oldham and Reid Marshall of Phoenix, Arizona, Trey and Sullivan Oldham of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and Olivia Oldham of Goodyear, Arizona; grandchildren Michael and Kyle Oldham of Amelia Island, Florida; great-grandchildren Townsend and Francis Oldham of Dell Rapids, South Dakota; his brother Harry and sister-in-law Margie Oldham; his sister Mary Quigley; and many loving nieces and nephews who will all miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Furlong (2025), and his parents.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at GEBHART-SCHMIDT-PARRAMORE Funeral Home in Miamisburg, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
