I was the next Moreland grandchild born after Rod. Last year, he and I were looking at a picture of his four-year-old self peering at me in a bassinet, and his 2024 quote from 1969 was, “I’m not sure about this.” Typical Rod humor with truth and love embedded. It wasn’t until this past week with all the reflection that I finally understood why I always felt better when in the presence of Rod. It was love. It took 55 years and his passing to make me understand that. He was always an amazing person and even as sad as I am, I’m still smiling and laughing as I think of specific memories. We were fortunate to have him in our lives. Rest in peace, Rod.

We are heartbroken by the loss of Rod — a cherished brother, brother-in-law, father, grandfather, and friend. Rod faced his long battle with cancer with such strength, grace, and unwavering love for his family. He met every challenge with courage and never stopped putting others before himself. His deep love for his children and grandchildren was always at the center of everything he did, and his presence brought light and calm to even the toughest days. Our hearts are especially with his kids, grandchildren, and our entire family as we grieve this tremendous loss. Rodney  & I met in Feb 2025.  Our friendship quickly grew as we made memories together. We became very close in his last weeks of life. I was by his side as much as possible. I love Rodney.  He will be forever in my heart. Love and prayers to his family.

To all Rods’ children and family.  I am so sorry to hear about your Dad.  What a huge loss for all of you.  Remember to always talk to each other, grieve in your own timeline.  Grief is a like a rolling coaster—it goes up and down and eventually slows down. Having a son who lost his Dad at 25 wasn’t easy for him——it took a whole year to accept it and start grieving. My heartbreaks for my family in Ohio. My deepest condolences, prayers, hugs and love to you all during this most tragic time of loss of Rod. May he rest in peace with his loved ones who went before him and  may all who love him find solace that we will see him again one day.

I am 16 years older than Rod, I remember him as a child, he called me Gee instead of Jim , he was rather skinny, he drank water, kool aid or pop but did not care for food. His adopted father, Larry Goolman and I became the best of friends, so I was around Rod a lot, he was a good kid. The past few years we would have lunch often at Perkins with other family members. Rod and I spent the last night together  with his mother (Beckie) in the hospital about two years ago. It was painful for him to see my sister slowly dying. He had a big heart. Family was everything to him. Rod and I could talk about anything,  we were rather close. I will miss Rod a lot.
