December 1, 1938 – November 9, 2025
Terence “Terry” Eugene Rieske, 86, of Miamisburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025. Born on December 1, 1938, in Dayton, Ohio, Terry lived a life defined by dedication, generosity, and love of family and country.
Terry attended the University of Dayton before answering the call to serve his nation. He became a pilot and officer in the U.S. military, proudly serving during the Vietnam War and retired with the rank of Major from the Florida National Guard. His commitment to his fellow service members continued throughout his life through his support of the Wounded Warrior Project and others in need.
He married Alice Reitz, and helped raise three children, Michael Rieske, Robin Rieske and Teresa Johnston, who recall many adventures on the beaches of Florida and dancing to the juke-box. Terry is also survived by his stepdaughters Jaime Mauer and Kim Ellis-Rieske; his brother Dennis Rieske and sister-in-law Katherine Rieske, (children Robert Rieske and Christina Booth); nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wives, Ann Bledsoe and Margaret “Brewton” Rieske and his stepson, George Tyson V.
Terry will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous spirit, and deep appreciation for life’s beauty. One of his favorite poems, High Flight by John Gillespie Magee Jr., reflected his lifelong love of flight and the sense of wonder that guided him:
“Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew—
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.”
Terry’s life was one of service, and inspiration. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his memory. https://tinyurl.com/Rieskedonation
