Urban Urbie W. Zink

May 8, 1937June 28, 2014

Age 77 of Miamisburg passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 at his residence after a several years of physical ailment. He was born May 8, 1937 in Miamisburg to the late Cyril and Justine (Belvo) Zink. In addition to his parents, Urbie was preceded by his sister, Joann Mayer. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan (Nohrer) Zink; daughters, Jodi Zink-Stapleton of Miamisburg and Jamie (Paul) Snarski of Waynesville; son-in-law, Willard Stapleton of Moraine and grandchildren, Chase and Chance Stapleton; siblings, Zane, Evodine, Delores, Dale, Carroll, Rolly, Bob and Judy; brother-in-law, Roger Nohrer of Florida and many wonderful nieces and nephews, as well as other extended family and friends. Urbie worked in the family business, Zink Meats as a young man. With desire to move out of the beef industry, Urbie began his own backhoe business which was short lived due to a serious automotive accident that put a hold on his life for about 2 years. After recovering, Urbie was employed by Belvo Builders before operating heavy equipment for Ronnie Weidel. Urbie’s entrepreneurship again got the best of him as he soon established Zink Construction as a contractor that specialized in pouring concrete, remodeling and new home construction. Before retirement in 2008, Urbie finally seemed to find his niche in chimney repair. Urbie was a kind and helpful man who enjoyed building birdhouses, artistic creations of copper, gardening, pickling and working outdoors. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Highland Memorial Cemetery, Miamisburg will serve as Urbie’s final resting place. Personal condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting Urbie’s online memorial at

Aunt Joan, Jodi and Jamie, I am so very sorry for your loss. I am so glad that I got to see him this past fall. I always remember that he grew portulacas in the retaining wall along the drive. Those flowers have always been a favorite of mine because of that. I have several planters on my back deck - since he passed - portulacas have grown and flowered in the planters. (I didn't plant them - they just appeared) I look at them and remember him everyday and smile. Uncle Urbie was one of the most joyous people I have known. I will miss him. Please know my prayers are with the three of you.

Unfortunately, I was out of town on June 28, 2014 and didn't arrive home until July 6th. After arriving home, I unpacked and settled in for the remaining of the day. I saw the blinking red light on the telephone message machine and when I heard the voice of Joan Zink, my heart quickly fell into my stomach. I didn't want a call from Joan because it probably wasn't good news and it was what I hoped it would not be, that My dearest friend who I Loved greatly, had passed away. It saddens me in so many ways, but at the same time, I am so happy for Urbie to be out of pain and have his whole self back again in Heaven. The Bright Light of Heaven just met the Bright Light from the Smile of Urbie Zink. The Bright Lights will burn brighter then ever before with Urbie's Smile shinning down upon us all. So many wonderful memories of all my visits with Joan and Urbie, sitting at the dinner table, drinking whatever Urbie had to offer. But it was always especially nice in the summer time when Urbie and Joan's garden was bearing its vegtables. I always left with a handful of the BEST. Over the past 23 to 24 years I have grown to Love Urbie and Joan Very Much and will hold Urbie and Joan in my Heart and prayers forever!!!
God Bless You my Friend Urbie Zink, you certainly touched many lives in the BEST OF WAYS over your lifetime, and we are ALL BETTER PEOPLE FOR KNOWING AND LOVING YOU!!!

Joan, Jodi and Jamie. I'm so sorry for your loss. One of my best memories was the Hunky Bacon you made the first time we had a cook out together. Haven't had that in a very long time! Joan, you and Urbie were a great team and you made each other look good. I was very happy to have you and Urbie as in-laws! Take care of you and know that I am praying for you and your family.

Aunt Joan, Jodi and Jamie, prayers that God will lift you up, comfort you and give you strength to carry on each and every day! I'm so glad for the visits I had with Uncle Urby, always had a smile on his face! He always had such a strong hug and would tell me to come back and visit! I was more than willing to take pics of your Christmas decorations when you asked, Aunt Joan, and I was thrilled to make that photo book for you! So glad you enjoyed it and even shared it with others! Love you, take care and I will still be coming around! Denise
