

HUGHES, Walter Ray, age 75 of Dayton, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 at Dayton VA Medical Center. He was born March 5, 1942 in Dayton to the late Luther Roby and Eleanor (Painter) Hughes. In addition to his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Mavity; infant brother, Charles Hughes and brothers-in-law, Richard Mavity and Jacob Smith. Walt is survived by his sisters, Joy Smith of Xenia and Fay Plsek of Fairborn; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Damon Saunders and Jill Prows. Walt was a 1960 graduate of Kiser High School and served honorably with the United States Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis from 1961-1965. He began his career by working at McCalls and later found extended employment with Park-N-Go an airport parking and shuttle service for which he worked over 25 years before retiring. He assisted with managerial responsibilities and business accounting. Walt enjoyed photography and was deeply dedicated to his Christian faith. Family will receive guest during visitation from 12:00-1:00 PM Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg. A funeral ceremony will immediately follow at 1:00pm Wednesday also at the funeral home and officiated by The Reverend Sue Hamilton. Guests will process to Dayton National Cemetery for burial with military honors.
