Alfred Dittebrand, born on July 14, 1928, passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2026, at the age of 97, surrounded by the love of his family. Beloved husband of 60 years to the late Gerry (nee Donahue); devoted father of Michael (deceased), Diane (Dr. Bob Newman) and Susan Winovich (Bob); cherished and proud grandfather of Olivia and Julia; loving uncle to many nieces and nephews and dear friend of many. Dearest brother-in-law to Philomena Griffen and Gayle Smith (deceased). He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Thelma and brothers James (Buster), William, and Eugene.
Alfred was born and raised in the Cleveland area, was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran and was employed by NASA until his retirement. He made many friends over the years and was a true companion to all who knew him. He was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles along with walking. He was also very meticulous with any task or project he tackled.
However, what mattered more than anything to Al, along with his beloved wife Gerry, was their family. They were devoted and loving parents. Their granddaughters held a truly special place in their hearts and perhaps one of their greatest joys in life.
As we mourn the loss of our dear father, we have faith and trust in the Lord's promise of eternal life in heaven. We can grieve with hope, knowing our loved ones who have passed, live again at peace with our Lord and Savior.
(Scripture) John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Special thanks and appreciation to the wonderful at home caregivers, along with the many nurses and medical staff, for their dedication and compassion over the years. Without all of them, Al wouldn't have been able to live such a long and wonderful life and to spend the quality time surrounded by his family and loved ones. He went home to the Lord, but his spirit and memory will live on in all of us.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are suggested to a local food bank or organization of choice.
A Celebration of his Life will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements by the A. RIPEPI AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY RD., MIDDLEBURG HTS (WEST OF I-71)
