Brian P. O’Donnell, Jr., passed away suddenly in Yaoundé Cameroon (Africa) on October 8, 2026, at the age of 59. His unexpected passing leaves a profound sadness in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.
Brian was the beloved husband of Valerie (nee Belko). Together they traveled the world, creating memories and sharing adventures that would become treasured parts of their life together. His career as a union electrician working at U.S. Embassies around the globe allowed him to experience a wide variety of cultures, explore new places, and enjoy unique and unforgettable experiences; and there was no one other than his beautiful wife that he wished to share those remarkable experiences with.
Brian was the loving stepfather of Taylor (Kyle Kettells) and Tyler Shadle. They held a special place in his heart. He embraced them as family and cherished the bond they shared. The love he had for them will forever remain a part of his legacy.
He was the devoted and fiercely loyal son of Brian P. O’Donnell, Sr. and Verna O’Donnell. Watching his parents’ long and loving marriage taught Brian the value of commitment, loyalty and enduring love; values he carried into his own marriage with Valerie as they built a life together filled with love, partnership, and adventures around the world.
Brian was an adored brother to Delia Bernet (James), Deanna O’Donnell (the late Craig Mackovjak), Michael O’Donnell (Krystyna), Thomas O’Donnell (Stacie) and Kevin O’Donnell (Allison).
He was an extraordinary uncle and great uncle; one who brought laughter, mischief and a sense of adventure to all of the youngest family members.
Outside of work and travel, Brian loved playing the guitar, coin collecting and enjoying a good glass of wine or two.
Brian was a proud member of IBEW Local 38, where he was part of a brotherhood of skilled electricians dedicated to their trade and craft. He never shied away from sharing his expertise and skills with his family.
Brian’s sudden passing is a heartbreaking loss for all who loved him. Though his work took him far from home, and his life brought him to places around the world, his greatest legacy will live on in the hearts of the family and friends who loved him. The memories he created, the experiences he shared, and the love he gave will never be forgotten. And though his life ended far too soon, the memories of a life filled with family, travel, work, and personal passions will continue to bring a sense of comfort to all he leaves behind.
His journey may have ended far from home, but he will forever remain close in the hearts of all those who loved him.
May Brian P. O’Donnell, Jr., rest in peace and may his memory be eternal. He will be forever loved, deeply missed and never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life honoring Brian will be held at a later date, with details to be shared once arrangements have been finalized.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Guitars in the Classroom at guitarsintheclassroom.org.
