I get sad as I think that I will never write my Papaw another thank you note. Just today, I thought about this and found an old card Papaw sent for my birthday. It reads"Happy Birthday Maude Aimee Grandma and I love you to the moon and back and are so proud of you." Just thinking about all the times Papaw told me he was proud of me makes me get teary eyed. It is sad knowing he'll never say that to me again until I reach heaven which won't be until a long time goes by. I wish I could see him again and give him a hug. I also wish I would receive a face time call too. I'm really gonna miss my grandpa. Just the other day, I went for a bike ride. I remember how Papaw would walk with me and Eddie down the street and I learned to ride my bike. I loved my grandpa. I still can't obtain in my brain that he's gone. I wish he was still here. I wish I could've told him one last time that I loved him and that I was proud of him. I have so many great memories of Papaw. These are just 2 of the thousands of thousands.

My Dad looks so content in this photo. He is confident and at peace; he looks so unburdened in this picture.  I’m going to miss his wise counsel, his fatherly approval, his graceful manner, his strength, his faith, his smile, his wink, his optimism.

Even though I didn't really know him, Edward (Papaw) Goans was my grandpa. He was the best person I had ever known.  He was always so generous. My he rest in peace.

Papaw meant so much to me. We had so many good times together. I always enjoyed those moments of going to see a movie and getting lunch afterwords. I always looked forward to him coming up to Alaska every summer. I'm just really sad now because he won't be coming this summer. I'm just glad that he's in a better place now. He will be greatly missed. I will ask for God's comfort and strength in these sad moments. But, I will also remember all the good times I had with Papaw.

Just a small memory of going out of town with Ed and Fred Torres on a union trip and we went to an Italian Restaurant but a Chinese family owned it. Got a good chuckle out of it for years. Don't even remember where we were but I can still see it in my mind.


My condolences to the family of Eddie & his wife, Donna.
We grew up attending a church on Cleveland's South Side. My step dad was the pastor.
Donna was the leader of the young people's group.
I played keyboards & was a vocalist in the song worship part of services.
I know Ed was very proud of his wife & children & loved them.
He will be missed.

Sharon and I first had the pleasure and blessing of knowing Donna and Eddie from the Mapledale Church of God,  they were such a light for the Lord, such an inspiration for us as we were new in the Lord, thank you for your love.

Dearest Goans family,
I always looked at Ed as a man who pursued God’s own heart. He had such a sweet spirit, a commitment to the authenticity of God’s word, and he never lost his personal hunger for the things of  the Lord. He was a pillar of Immanuel during difficult times, a spiritual father to  many, a friend and a confidant of mine
His wisdom, friendship, and example will be greatly missed.

As I lay in bed tonight, I am sleepless. When I close my eyes, the very first thing that pops into my head is Papaw. I closed my eyes and pictured him being here telling me it's okay and that he loves me. Even now as I am writing this I am thinking about all the great and precious memories I shared with him. I have more memories than I can count. I really wish he was here right now holding on to my hand. I know that will only happen when I go to heaven.  He was the best. I still can't believe he's gone. In my brain, I know he's in a better place, but in my heart, a better place would be him here with me.

I had my friend Andre with extreme air brush  make the eagle's nest  Coffee House sign  and  I installed it, it was a coffee cup  with an eagle  nested inside of it and helped Ed and Donna with the plumbing in the bathroom at the Eagle's Nest coffee house when they were getting ready to open it.

I remember one evening when Ed And Donna came over to pick Mike and me up to go to dinner. My hair was in curlers when I answered the door, They arrived earlier than I expected, so, I ran upstairs to comb out my hair, I came down stairs in 5 minutes flat with my hair done in fluffy curls.  Later, Donna told me Ed thought I wore a wig because it only took me 5 minutes to do my hair.  So, when I would have my hair done in an up do, I would tell Ed " this is my 15 minute wig".....we would just laugh....it was always my own hair.

The first memory that came to mind was when Ed Sr and Ed Jr and another fella I can't remember his name were hunting and we were all ages 10 years apart , I was the oldest at 50, Ed was 40 The fella was 30 and Ed Jr. was 20.  I remember how humble and kind hearted Ed was. Always a positive message except when he was hunting from a tree stand.

I remember all the times Papaw commented on the way I looked. I'd feel unattractive, and he'd say "Maude, you sure look nice today." He made me feel great all the time. I remember when I'd make him ice tea and he'd put lemon in it and tell me how good or bad it was. I also remember how he use to tease me about how much I "loved" cleaning toilets. He'd say to me " Hey Aimee, I'm gonna make sure you have a nice toilet caddy for when I come." I'd laugh and I'd tell him that would be great.  He use to stay in our guest bedroom and I think back to when me and my family would clean it, and we'd send him pictures. He also use to ask me if I wanted to come take a nap with him. Normally, I wouldn't, but I still went to take one, and I ended up playing on his kindle.  I'd trade anything in the world to do that again. In movies where it says, "If you had one wish what would you wish for?"  Right now, I'd wish over anything else to have my Papaw back on this earth with me. I'm sure gonna miss him. I had so many more memories to be made. Just a couple days before he passed, I had asked my mom for his email. I emailed him a couple times and on the last email I received from him it said "I love you and I am so happy that you are still playing the piano." I am sure gonna miss all the times he sat and taught me how to play the piano.  I loved him more than words can express. I just wish he was here right with me and I could wake up from this horrible nightmare. "Papaw, if you can hear me from up in heaven, then I hope God's taking great care of you and you know I love you." Papaw will be missed by all. He was such a lovable man.

Seeing these photos, and Mr. Goans' smiling face brings back so many memories that seem like only yesterday. He treated us all like family, and put others' needs before his own. I feel so blessed to have had the honor of knowing him. Our deepest condolences to the Family, our prayers are with you during this difficult time. We love you.

Ed was a great follower of God who loved the Lord with all his heart and walked the walk. He was a great teacher of how life should be lived.  We were friends and fellow Christians and he was a true inspiration.  My deepest sympathies to his wonderful family also my dear friends. I understand the pain of loss but know we will see him again soon. My love and prayers for you all.
