George Haddad Jr., age 93. Born August 4, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio. On May 19, 1951, at the age of 23, George married his high school sweetheart Lucille Paulozzi and they celebrated 70 years of marriage. George was the Loving father of Georgine Schick (Daniel, deceased), Randy (Sue) and Robert. Cherished grandfather of Brittany (Joshua Trice), Aaron, Adam, Bethany, Courtany (Grampy’s birthday buddy) and Christian George. Great-grandfather of Alexandria and Phoenix Trice. George was the son of the late George Sr. and Sarah (nee Triana) Haddad. Brother of Robert D. Haddad. Also survived by beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
It is remarkable how George made the most of what he was given. He graduated from West Tech High School a State Cross Country Champion, talented trumpeter in the band, and member of the Air National Guard. During one summer, he endured to swim the mile-long trek to the Edgewater break wall with a friend. As they approached the jagged wall the Coast Guard spotted the boys, picked them up, and brought them to safely back to the Lake Erie shore.
Upon graduation, while serving in the Air National Guard, the U.S. Air Force called him to active duty at Fort Benning, GA in response to the Korean conflict. Over one Thanksgiving, he journeyed by train back to Cleveland, running miles from the station to surprise his mom, and fiancée! After completing his military commitment, George became a pilot and joined a flying club to pursue his love of flight.
George’s career began as an Electronic Technician at NASA, then Designers for Industry, and ultimately retired from Westinghouse (previously Gould Ocean Systems). He was proud of his work on the Vanguard rocket, and US Naval nuclear torpedo.
Retirement gave George the opportunity to join the Seven Hills Rec Center and work out with and make new friends. He loved woodworking in his “Buckeye Workshop”, building World War I model airplane shelves, swing sets, and hope chests for his grandchildren, while meticulously maintaining his home and cars. George was able to fix everything, always making things better than how they started. Devoted to his family, he was a proud supporter of his children’s endeavors, and dreams. He loved patriotic marches, World War II movies and documentaries, and his signature passion a good bowl of ice cream… or two!
He will be remembered for his devotion to family. His love and commitment was so deep that he would have given his life for them. George Haddad will forever be cherished by his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Parma, Ohio Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at 11:00 Am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
