She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Gale, and was a wonderful, marvelous mother to Krysten (Brian) Kowalski, Justin (Jennifer) Fisk, Lauren (Michael) Browning, and Kevin (Summer) Fisk. She was a proud and adoring grandmother to Caitlin and Nathan Kowalski; Abigail, Keegan, and Parker Fisk; Maya and Harper Browning; and London and Camden Fisk.
Born on October 3, 1948, in Standish, Michigan, Janis was the daughter of the late Arthur Claire and Carcia Lucille (nee Gray) Mutch. The middle of three children, she was preceded in death by her older brother, James (Addie), and is survived by her younger brother, Ronald (Nancy). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Janis embraced many roles throughout her life and fulfilled each of them with extraordinary dedication. Her passions included cross-stitch, knitting, crocheting, photography, and scrapbooking. She created treasured memory books that preserved some of life’s most meaningful moments, allowing her family to relive them for generations. She was a remarkable wife and mother—the steady center of her family—keeping everyone connected and managing the household with the skill and care of a full C suite team.
She devoted herself wholeheartedly to the activities that mattered to her loved ones, whether chairing the opening ceremonies of the Bay Challenge Cup, keeping the soccer scorebook for Gale, coaching youth sports, or attending countless tournaments, concerts, and performances.
Janis cared deeply for those around her, consistently placing the needs of others before her own. Her generosity and warmth made her “mom” and “grandma” to many beyond her immediate family. Her values, love, and unwavering commitment to family continue to live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The Gathering Place at touchedbycancer.org where Janis served as a first point of connection for others facing the cancer she herself had overcome.
The family will receive friends FRIDAY 4-7 PM at the A. RIPEPI AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY RD., MIDDLEBURG HTS (WEST OF I-71)
