

JOSEPHINE “JOSIE” POMPIGNANO (nee Vinci), age 88. Beloved wife of the late Nunzio. Loving mother of Guy (Janette), Lynda, Gary (Roseanne) and Laura Virosteck (Mike). Cherished grandmother of Michelle Banach, Joey, David, Matthew Virosteck; great grandmother of JD “John” and Giuliana Banach. Dearest daughter of the late Calogero and Maria Vinci. Dear sister of Mary Deranek (Dan, deceased), Felicia Munday (Bob) (both deceased), William Vinci (Jay) (both deceased), Dorothy Vinci (deceased), Charles Vinci (deceased), Victor Vinci (Arlene, deceased), Angelo Vinci (Helen, deceased), Raynard Vinci (Dee) (both deceased), Betty Ann Williams and Marge Taylor (Jerry). Adored aunt of many. Josie was born October 1, 1931. Her father was a janitor, and her mother was a homemaker. She was raised in Cleveland’s “Big Italy” neighborhood during the Great Depression with her five brothers and five sisters. She and her husband, Nunzio “Bunzi”, raised four children in Eastlake and Parma Heights, respectively. Having worked several jobs, including airport security at Cleveland Hopkins Airport, Josie retired in 1994 from her position as manager of the circulation department for Sun Newspapers, serving 11 years with the publication. Josie practiced Catholicism, attending mass most Sundays until her health declined. She enjoyed many hobbies and various activities, such as antique shopping, interior decorating, doing arts and crafts, listening to music that spanned from Frank Sinatra to The Eagles, tending to her rock garden, walking her bichon, taking trips to Oregon, watching old western movies and reruns of Sanford and Son, rooting for the Indians baseball team and hosting holiday dinners. (NO FLOWERS PLEASE); donations to Alzheimer’s Association. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Gathering Center of A. Ripepi & Sons Funeral Home (Rear Building) Saturday January 11, 2020 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Final resting place Holy Cross Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the A.
