Laural D Kortovich (nee Skowronski), 75, of Brunswick, Ohio — passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 5, 2025. Laural was born on January 12, 1950, to the late Laura and William Skowronski. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph Kortovich. A devoted mother to Jessica Cruxton (Mickey) and Brian. Cherished grandmother to Evelyn, Grant and Garrett Cruxton. Dear sister to Paula Watson-Tischler (Bruce), Terry Skowronski (Debbie), Karen Iacano (Joe), late Barbara Sapp (Karl) and Dennis Skowronski (Cindy). She was a dear aunt to many, and a friend to so many in the St. Ambrose Church community & beyond.
Laural’s life was defined by her unwavering faith, family, humor and her infectious spirit. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend to many. She lit up every room she was in with her smile, and joy for life, and had a profound & immediate impact with everyone she encountered. When you met Laural, you didn’t just meet a person, you met a woman with deep compassion, empathy and perspective and understanding of life.
She was our angel on earth. Laural was a resilient woman. She had a heart of gold. She sacrificed for so many. Her Faith moved mountains!
Her Faith was a living testimony to all. Through adversity, life’s trials and tribulations, her character would be severely tested. Instead of running, she dove deep into her faith and did what she’s always done, gave it to God and walked in HIS ways.
Laural graduated from St. Stephen’s High School in Cleveland, Ohio. She was married to late Joseph Kortovich in the summer of 1973 and built a beautiful life together in Brunswick, OH. Their pride & joy was their two children Jessica & Brian. Unfortunately, Joseph passed away in 1992 due to appendix cancer. During these tough times, Laural exemplified resiliency by going back to college, working full time, putting her kids through private school, and eventually graduating from Cleveland State University, Summa Cumme Laude.
She then embarked on her professional journey as a social worker for Cuyahoga County Children & Family Services. This position was very challenging, but the impact she made in the lives of less fortunate people and the underprivileged youth was life changing. Her work completely filled her heart with joy. She lead feverishly, sacrificed for many, and brought happiness to everyone she encountered in her 23 years of service until retiring in February 2020.
In retirement, Laural cherished spending time with her grandchildren, attending many of their sporting events and helping them grow spiritually. Laural had a strong devotion to St. Ambrose Church, her renewal sisters, and constantly building & serving the Ambrose community. In addition, Laural had a great appreciation of her Polish heritage and was often referred to be her siblings as “Ludga".
