Our condolences on the loss of Lenore. 

She was a beautiful, kind, and talented lady. 

Norie and our mother (Ellen) were good friends and were majorettes together at Rhodes High School. 

We have wonderful memories of visiting Norie, Bruno, Mark, Marisa, and Michael at your beautiful home. Norie made the most delicious spaghetti!

On behalf of my father, my brothers Mark and Michael and our families we would like to thank all of you for being here to pay your respects and to honor my mother, Lenore Margherita Bertin Moreal, also known as Norie.   I could say a lot about my mom, she packed a lot of life in her 88 years, unfortunately, the last 14 of those years were affected by the sad disease of alzheimers.   I believe she never thought anything was wrong with herâ€¦.which made it easier for her but much tougher on her only caregiver, our father Bruno.  I know this sounds clichÃ©, but my parents had a love story like no other, and my mother was like no other.
She was born on April 16th, 1935 in Cleveland, OH to Achille Bertin and Ida Luvison Bertin, both Italian immigrants.   
From what my mother shared with usâ€¦she had the best childhood growing up with her only sibling, her younger sister Anita.   She adored her father, and was only 40 when he passedâ€¦I remember her sitting in the family room crying for daysâ€¦30 years later she lost her mother, Ida, a great lady in her own right, to ironically, the same disease my mother suffered from, and for 14 years as well.   One of her favorite memories that she always talked about was when she travelled with her parents and sister to Italy on the famous ship, the Andrea Doria, she spent her whole summer there and didnâ€™t want to leaveâ€¦...my mother knew how to have fun, and she knew what she wanted.

Enter Bruno Morealâ€¦As rumor has itâ€¦they met at an Italian Club picnic..he was playing an Italian card game, he turned and there was my mother in his face, with her cat eye glasses and big sun hatâ€¦he asked her on a date (or maybe it was the other way around, weâ€™re  not sure)â€¦little did he know that when he came to pick her up, she was the daughter of Achille Bertin, his boss at the OA Bertin terrazzo company where he worked, and the rest they say is history.

Some of you may not know that my mother had a few hidden talents.  She was a baton twirler for the infamous Rhodes High school and actually won several competitions back in the day, (a talent she passed down to myself and my daughter Gina)â€¦she was smart, she watched Jeopardy every  night and pretty much knew all of the answers â€¦.I wouldnâ€™t call her a great athlete, but somehow she managed to have 2 hole in ones on the golf course in her golf careerâ€¦career meaning her weekly golf outings with her friends, â€¦.and she was a self-taught artistâ€¦she painted beautiful oil paintings that hang in her home todayâ€¦I always told her â€œyou could have been somebody in the art worldâ€â€¦but all she wanted to be was the best wife, mother, grandmother and raise a respectable familyâ€¦and she succeeded on all accounts.

My parents were married in 1958.  She was the ultimate housewife and motherâ€¦she was meticulous with her house, her organizational skillsâ€¦.she took pride in keeping a nice homeâ€¦.. She took such good care of my brothers and I that we all lived at home until we were marriedâ€¦.â€¦why wouldnâ€™t we?.  A devout Catholic all her life, she instilled in us morals and values and made sure we went to church every Sunday.  All of us had 12 years of Catholic Education..we attended school right here at St. Columbkille and were all married here as well.  

Family was everything to my motherâ€¦.She travelled with me and my batons all over the world, and later when my daughter started twirling, it was round 2 for her..and she loved it.   â€¦. She was always present and cheering on her 7 grandchildren, Alissa, Gina, Nick, Michael, Bruno, Ava and Alberta, whether it be a figure skating competition, baseball, hockey or volleyball game.   Sadly, she could not enjoy becoming a great grandmother to little Bruno and Carmella. 

In a nutshellâ€¦my mother loved lifeâ€¦..She loved to dress up to the nineâ€™s and wear the jewelry that my dad often bought herâ€¦(sometimes all at once),,,.she liked to call herself a gypsy.   You could always see my parents dancing the cha-cha or rumba at weddings, Italian functions, any event with music.  She used to belt out songs â€¦. thinking she was Etta Jamesâ€¦..she loved Elvis and cried when he diedâ€¦..her smile lit up a room and she was the life of the partyâ€¦.she enjoyed a good Manhattan or Negroni!....maybe thatâ€™s why the three of us all have a basement bar in our houseâ€¦.she set the bar high..â€no pun intendedâ€ 

My mother was a loyal friendâ€¦.my parents had their basic core friend groupâ€¦.(sadly most of them have passed onâ€¦.. but they enjoyed going to dinner every Wednesday for many years â€¦usually ending up at their favorite table at Stancatos.   She loved to travel a bit more than my dad..but they did manage to attend 38 consecutive NTMA Terrazzo Conventions and made friends for life. My parents had a great life together.

I could go on but I will wrap it up with thisâ€¦.when my dad took his vow on their wedding day 65 years agoâ€¦.he meant every word of itâ€¦for better for worse, in sickness and in health, til death do us part. .. â€¦He was there for her when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 64â€¦.then 10 years later when she was diagnosed with dimentiaâ€¦.my father vowed to take care of her until the end.   It wasnâ€™t easyâ€¦she went through every stage there wasâ€¦..but he kept her in the home he built for them 62 years agoâ€¦he said he knows her better than anybody and will take care of her better than anybody couldâ€¦and that he did.   Not many 87 year olds would do what he has doneâ€¦and for that, we are forever gratefulâ€¦.I never understood when someone passes, people say  â€œtheyâ€™re in a better placeâ€â€¦I I would like to believe the better place is here with usâ€¦â€¦.but now sheâ€™s at peace and reunited with her parents once againâ€¦.we will take care of dadâ€¦weâ€™ll make sure we celebrate your life and have a few Manhattans and Negronis together until we can have one with youâ€¦ miss you and love you -
