"March 13, a day of sadness, happiness, and peace as our family gathered around our beloved mom to bless her on her heavenly journey. Sadness for our loss, but happiness for her reunion with the many she missed, especially our Dad. Although her presence on earth was yesterday, her life in heaven now, her memories will be forever etched in our hearts.
Our mom treasured her husband and family and was devoted to her faith . She devoted her mornings to the Rosary. She prayed often to St. Anthony, the patron saint of lost things, and St. Therese, trusting in her powerful intercession and receiving a yellow rose as a sign of her prayers being answered. She was always quick to say, “Pray to St. Anthony”, if we were troubled by something we were looking for. She is no doubt looking down on us, reminding us to pray to St. Anthony. Even though she is not lost, she would want us to pray to find comfort through our faith, knowing that one day we will reunite with her again.
If you ever met our mom, you couldn’t help but notice her beautiful smile and her vibrant personality. She had a special gift for striking up conversations with anyone, even complete strangers. And she certainly loved to talk! Her favorite topic, of course, was always her family.
Our mom had a love for so many things. Spending time on her deck, taking in the beauty of her flower gardens . She loved going to our brother Mike’s greenhouse, she needed her birdseed and home decor! After my dad passed, we gave mom a Westie puppy for Christmas. She named him Gentleman Jack, after her favorite whiskey. He was everything she needed, becoming the ninth child that could do no wrong. She enjoyed her knitting group on Thursdays, which we were always lucky enough to enjoy the benefits of a handmade washcloth or scarf! Pizza, her fresh baked cookies before school and most recently, her love of an ice-cold sip of Coke. But, most importantly, she treasured spending time with her family.
Family….words can’t describe the love she had for her family and the honor of being a mom, grandma and great grandmother . She proudly told everyone, “Did you know I have eight children and thirty-four grandchildren?” Later in life she was blessed to add thirty-one great-grandchildren. And the amazing thing is, she knew every single one of them by name. Although she couldn’t attend every function, her pride in all of us all may have been the silent wind beneath our wings.
Mom and Dad worked side by side in the family greenhouse business. Mom made sure the flowers were watered and cared for. Together they kept the greenhouse full of life and beauty. Her life was a reflection of nurturing, devotion and faith. Her greatest love became our greatest joy….taking care of her and doting on her during her last few months.
Our mom had a trivet in our kitchen that read, “Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.” It was something we would read over and over again, always trying to fully understand its meaning. Today, it reminds us not to carry all of life’s worries, but instead to trust in faith. Mom, continue to be our faith, our guidance, and our strength.
Although you aren’t here for us to see, your presence lives inside each of us. May our lives be a reflection of your beautiful soul.
We love you Mom."
