Michael was a proud graduate of Valley Forge High School class of 1971, where he lettered in football, track, was President of the National Honor Society, and Class Treasurer. Subsequently, he graduated from The University of Pennsylvania with honors, then continued his studies at the Medical College of Toledo. He completed his ophthalmology residency at University Hospitals of CWRU.
He was a member of the medical staffs of Parma Community General Hospital, Lutheran Hospital, and Southwest General Hospital. At Parma Hospital, he served as Chairman of Surgery and Department Chief of Ophthalmology for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Medical Executive Committee for many years.
Early in his career, he was an instructor at The VA Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at CWRU. He was a Diplomat of The American Board of Ophthalmology and recognized as a member of The American College of Surgeons.
He was in private practice in Parma for 40 years and was assisted tremendously by the support of his Office Manager and Optical Assistant Pat Elliott, up until his retirement in 2018. His relationships with his professional colleagues were always of special importance to him through the years.
He was an intellectual with diverse interests that he pursued in order to master. Always an athlete, he enjoyed and competed in golf and tennis. An avocation was his interest in day trading in the stock market.
A lover of music of all genres, he enjoyed going to a variety of concerts, especially with his dear friend Cindy Halle.
He always cherished the memories and camaraderie of his high school friends, with whom he remained close for over 50 years.
He was generous and loving to his family, and devoted to his many patients. His love of life and ever-present sense of humor made him a joy to be near. Michael touched many lives, was very loved and admired. He will be sorely missed.
The family suggests that contributions may be made in Michael's memory to Autism STAR CAMP at P.O. Box 41066 Brecksville Rd., Brecksville, OH 44131.
