Michael Edwin Wesel, 62, was born on New Year’s Day in Marietta, Ohio, to Luada and Joseph Wesel, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from The Ohio State University and later earned his law degree. He spent most of his life in the Cleveland area, where he practiced tax law and ran his own firm.
Mike loved baseball. A Cincinnati Reds fan growing up, he later made the transition to cheering for the Cleveland Guardians and attended many games. He enjoyed New York Times games and crossword puzzles. An avid reader, Mike read hundreds of books during his lifetime. During the last year of his life, he mastered listening to audiobooks using eye and voice commands. Mike created many wonderful memories with his family and friends that will live on through them—above all, through the sons he loved dearly.
Michael will be deeply missed by his family, especially his sons, Ethan (Rachel) Wesel and Jason (Jess) Wesel; his siblings, Anne Keegan (Joseph), Joseph Wesel (Kathryn), Catherine Whelchel (Richard), David Wesel (Marcy), Marilyn Wesel, and Richard Wesel (Ellen); and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Wesel, and by his cherished wife, Teresa Ann LaCorte Wesel, who provided him with comfort and strength, passed away in March 2025.
Michael showed incredible resilience and faith throughout his almost seven-year battle with ALS. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the ALS Association to help provide other families with the same support the organization gave ours.
