Shirley A Terlop

Shirley A. Terlop (nee Stanis), age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday September, 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. A lifelong devout Catholic, she lived her faith not only in prayer, but through a lifetime of service to others. Her generous spirit, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her church and community touched countless lives.

Beloved wife of the late Russell, Sr. for 60 years; devoted mother of Jean Haussman (deceased), Cheryl Hanzel (deceased)(Joseph), Russell Jr. (Johanna), Darrell (Frances-deceased) and Peter (Advia); cherished grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother of many; dear sister of Arthur and Leon (both deceased).

A proud graduate of Ursuline College, Shirley carried her education and faith into a vocation of ministry and service. Following her retirement from her career as a hospital chaplain, she continued her ministry as a Certified Pastoral Minister for the Diocese of Cleveland, dedicating herself to accompanying and caring for others in times of both joy and difficulty. She generously volunteered with numerous church organizations and community outreach programs throughout her life, always finding ways to help those in need.

One of her greatest joys and privileges was serving as an Associate for the Sisters of the Incarnate Word. Her relationship with the Sisters was a deeply meaningful part of her spiritual life and reflected the faith, compassion, and dedication that guided her throughout her years of service.

Shirley also found great joy in the simple things that enriched the lives of those around her. You would hear her favorite Polka music playing in her home every Sunday. She was an avid reader, a love she happily passed along to her family and friends. She was also an accomplished knitter, often creating beautiful afghans by hand as gifts for the people she loved. Each one was a labor of love and a tangible reminder of her thoughtfulness and generosity.

A lifelong Cleveland sports fan, she especially cherished the Cleveland Guardians, whom she had faithfully followed since childhood. She was also an avid golfer and treasured the many years she spent on the golf course with her beloved husband and the many friends she made along the way.

Family was at the heart of Shirley's life. She and her husband shared a special joy in following their grandchildren in their many athletic endeavors. They were enthusiastic supporters in the stands and were more than willing to travel out of town to cheer on their grandchildren at volleyball tournaments and other sporting events. Those trips created countless cherished memories and reflected how deeply proud she was of her family.

Above all, she will be remembered for her deep faith, generous heart, loving presence, and lifelong commitment to serving others. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and kindness that will continue through the many people whose lives she touched, especially her family, friends, fellow parishioners, and those she served throughout her ministry.

Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at Mary Queen of the Apostles Parish, 6455 Engle Rd., Brook Park EVERYONE MEET AT CHURCH Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends TUESDAY 4-7 PM with the Holy Rosary at 6:40 pm at the A. RIPEPI AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY RD., MIDDLEBURG HTS (WEST OF I-71)
