Tanya Anne Kissell, 53, of Strongsville, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, after a long and courageous journey, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Cleveland, she was the cherished daughter of Ilija and Kathleen (Dorsch) Gawrilow.
Tanya was the devoted and beloved wife of 28 years to Jeffrey A. Kissell, whose life was forever brighter because of her love, laughter, and unwavering support. She was a loving sister to Tara (Victor) Szerpicki and Tamara (David) Shisila, and a treasured daughter-in-law of Robert Kissell and the late Shirley Kissell; cherished sister-in-law to Janell (Glenn) Bishop, Beverly (Matt) Jones, Brian (Denise) Kissell, and Mark (Molly) Kissell.
Nothing brought Tanya more joy than being “Aunt Tanya” to Benjamin Szerpicki, Emily Shisila, Megan Shisila, Brady Shisila, Sophia Bishop, Gavin Kissell, Alaina Kissell, Vivian Kissell, Zachary Kissell, Anna Kissell, and Ella Kissell. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate their lives — attending recitals, cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, and making each child feel deeply loved and supported. Her presence was a gift, and her love for her family knew no bounds.
A proud graduate of Bowling Green State University, Tanya earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology and went on to work as a Production Coordinator for manufacturers throughout the Cleveland area. She approached both her work and her relationships with professionalism, dedication, kindness, and grace.
Tanya had a vibrant spirit that could light up any room. She loved reading, hosting gatherings, laughing with family and friends, and creating moments that brought people together. She especially cherished the time she spent with her family, aunts, uncles, and cousins, holding close the traditions, conversations, and memories they shared throughout the years. She was funny, warm, nurturing, and endlessly thoughtful — the kind of person who remembered the little things, showed up when it mattered most, and made everyone around her feel cared for and valued. Tanya also had a special love for animals, especially cats, which she adored and lovingly cared for as pets throughout her life.
Though she fought bravely for many years, Tanya never allowed her struggles to define her. Her strength, resilience, and deep love for others remained constant through it all. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, laughter, devotion, and unconditional love that will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
