His family was with him and consist of his wife of 46 years, Darlene Downing (Swisher), his son, Timothy Downing, and his wife Angelita, along with their children, Timothy 2, Esperanza, Ezekiel, Elias, and Adelena. His daughter, Sarah Dugger, granddaughter Karen Dugger, and his great granddaughter, Daisy Ruth Ann Dugger. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in- law, David and Kelley Downing.
Cordell enjoyed his time in the Navy and served his country from 1962 to 1966.
Cordell‘s major love was serving Jesus Christ. He did that in many ways including attending Breiel Boulevard Church of God and supporting missions by visiting several countries, including Nicaragua, Peru, and Ecuador. His other interests included studying the Bible, cutting firewood, learning about politics and collecting arrowheads and rocks.
His goal was to reach heaven and be reunited with his son, James Matthew Downing, and his parents Cordell Sr. and Ruth Downing, along with his sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Logan Miller.
His consistency and unique qualities will be missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Breiel Boulevard First Church of God. Funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm with Pastor Timothy Downing officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Navy will be at the Butler County Memorial Park.
