James Burroughs Stroud Jr.

Over the course of a long and steady working life, James built a reputation for reliability and care. He was a professional long haul truck driver for more than 30 years, safely accumulating over 3 million miles—an achievement that spoke to his discipline, attentiveness, and pride in doing things the right way. He was also an owner of a SOHIO service station, bringing the same practical know-how and commitment to honest work to his business.

James’s interests reflected both skill and spirit. He was a musician and a horse trainer at Lazy J. Ranch, pursuits that required patience, feel, and a steady hand. He enjoyed watching football, NASCAR, and the Indy 500, and he took pleasure in going to classic car shows and listening to classic rock music. In quieter moments, he crafted handmade wooden ships—careful work that mirrored his appreciation for detail and craftsmanship.

To those who knew him, James was often the life of the party, remembered for a great sense of humor that could lighten a room and bring people together. He will be remembered with respect and gratitude by all who shared the road, the ranch, the music, and the everyday moments of life with him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by son, Nicholas Stroud and daughter, Kristin Stroud.

James is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jeanine Stroud; children,

Joe Brown (Jacqueline), James Stroud (Diana), Chad Stroud, Brooke Stroud Ellis, Kyle Stroud, Cassie Stroud; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sister, Patricia Kinder.
