In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Gary and Randy Emrick.
Larry was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his son, Greg (Amy) Emrick; daughter, Liz (Tom) Gribben; grandchildren, Haily (Ryan Kwiatek) Emrick, Sarah Emrick, Will Emrick, Brian Gribben and Nicole (Stephen) Ulmer; in addition to many other loving members and friends. Larry was extremely proud of his family. He loved each member deeply.
While in high school, he played basketball for the Middletown Middies. Larry was part of the teams in 1956-1958 that won 76 straight games and were inducted into The Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame. He continued his love for the game in college by first attending Purdue University and finishing his basketball career at Miami University in Oxford. He received a degree in Accounting at Miami and then later a masters in mathematics from Xavier. He retired from AK Steel after 32 years of service. Although he loved this career, he spoke the most highly of the one that followed: teaching students in his hometown. He loved education and helping the students he taught.
Not only was Larry always smiling, but he was always telling jokes to get people around him smiling. He was known by many as a kind soul who always had a positive attitude. For those closest to him, he was known as a prankster who loved having fun. Even during the midst of a tough year, he was still smiling and cracking jokes. His contagious laugh will be missed. His family and friends will carry on his humor for sure.
Larry was a light in this world, and what a gift to have known him. May his legacy live on through his loved ones.
Funeral Services will be private. There will be a celebration of life for Larry on January 22nd at Wildwood GC from 2-5pm.
