Lois J. Butch, age 80, of Middletown, OH, passed away on September 9, 2025 at Otterbein Senior Living in Lebanon. She was born July 20, 1945, the daughter of William Scott Landen and Thelma (Yenser) Landen.
Lois graduated from Middletown High School in 1963. She was employed at Ohio Bell straight out of high school and relocated to Armco Steel in the Telecommunications Department. From there, she became medically disabled and retired in 1996.
Lois enjoyed being the Senior High Youth Director at Christ United Methodist Church for many years. During that time, she also enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting with friends and playing a competitive game of Canasta.
In her later years, Lois found enjoyment in crocheting - not only for her loved ones, but also for the elderly in Hospice, the homeless and fresh newborn babies. She enjoyed baking with her grandchildren and teaching them all about her mom’s old fashioned sugar cookies, oatmeal scotches, peanut butter cookies and buckeyes. Lois’s most recent enjoyment was found in becoming the “neighborhood cat lady” and bird watcher - feeding and caring for any critter that approached her front porch. Although Lois did not attend church regularly in her old age, God remained the center of her heart and the two of them held a very tight bond.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Jason Butch; brothers, Leslie (Les) Landen and William (Bill) Landen; sisters, Elizabeth (Beth) Landen, Juanita Landen; sister-in-law, Cheryl Landen; and ex-husband, James Butch.
Lois is survived by her children, Joel (Adrienne) Butch and Jodi Riddle; brother-in-law, Larry Gammage; grandchildren, Taylor (Patrick) Reece, Timmy Butch, Amanda (Brittany) Snow, Morgan Briggs (Nicholas Turnmire), Jordan Hall (Austin Bors), Nicky Butch, Nicklas Squire, Landen Butch, Stella Butch; great grandchildren, Jayce Briggs, Caradee Briggs, Lynden Briggs, Braelynn Bors, Beckett Bors, Baylor Bors, Victor Reece and Kellen Reece.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Middletown Arts Center, 130 N. Verity Parkway, Middletown, Ohio 45042 on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 11am to 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Paws Matter, P.O. Box 694 Middletown, OH 45042.
