Those who knew Pete will remember a man who held his family at the center of his life. He was proud to be a devoted husband, to help raise amazing children, and to be a papaw who loved and adored his grandbabies. He also carried deep pride in being a big brother to nine younger brothers, a role that reflected his steady presence and the importance he placed on family.
Pete took equal pride in the work of his hands and the dedication of a life built through effort. He became a skilled crane technician, and he poured patience and perseverance into a long-running project close to his heart—building his 1978 Corvette over the course of 15 years.
In quieter moments and in the simple joys of everyday life, Pete found happiness in fishing, working on cars, listening to music, and watching movies with his wife and kids. He enjoyed camping, joking around, and making the most of the time given—bringing warmth to a room with his humor and an ease that invited others to relax and feel at home.
Pete hoped to be remembered as someone who loved his family, worked hard, made people laugh, and always had a good story to tell. More than anything, he wanted people to hold close the good times, the laughter, and the memories made together.
Pete is preceded in death by parents, Maxwell Byrd and Yvonne Byrd; grandparents, James and Louella Byrd, Albert and Irene Thompson.
Pete is survived by his wife of 29 years, Rose Marie Byrd; children, Jacob Byrd, Haley Byrd, Savannah Byrd; grandchildren, Ashton Byrd, Hudson Byrd, August Watson and Bonnie Barnhiser arriving in November; siblings, James Byrd, Patrick Byrd, Mason Byrd, Jessy Byrd, Bobby Byrd, Jonathan Byrd, Michael Byrd, Jack Byrd, Steven Byrd and other loving family members and friends.
