A Middletown, Ohio, native, Roger was also a local historian and former ARMCO steel worker. Alongside George Crout, he co-authored the book *Middletown, Ohio*, an *Images of America* series title featuring over 200 historic photographs of the city. He also authored two additional books about ARMCO and the history of Middletown. Through this contribution, Roger helped preserve the story of Middletown for future generations, honoring the everyday lives and landmarks that defined it. He wrote a weekly historical column in the Middletown Journal for several years as well as a broadcast on WPFB. Additionally, he greatly enjoyed working at the MidPointe Library in Middletown, where he helped to collate the George Crout collection.
