Tony was born April 26, 1939 in Odessa, TX to Lawrence and Martha Jean Logsdon. He lived in Midland, TX and was a proud graduate of Midland High class of 1957. Tony joined the United States Air Force October 19, 1957 and served until his retirement July 31, 1978.
While stationed at Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, WA, he met Louise Althea Spencer. They married December 3, 1963, and were married 40 years before Louise’s passing in January 2004.
While in the Air Force, they lived in Moses Lake and Spokane, Washington; Bitburg Germany; Great Falls, Montana; and Washington DC. Tony also served in Korea and Vietnam. During his enlistment in the Air Force he was promoted to the rank of Technical Sergeant, and Assistant Fire Chief in the Civil Engineer Squadron. Upon Tony’s retirement from the Air Force, they moved back home to Midland, Texas.
Tony and Louise had one son, William Ray Logsdon, the joy of their lives. He was born June 23, 1970 while they were in Spokane, Washington. Tony loved to play catch, fish, ride go karts and work on cars with Willy. They rebuilt a 1949 Chevy pickup for Willy to drive to school, a great father and son project that they enjoyed doing together.
The other joy of Tony’s life was his grandson Cameron. Cameron Doan Logsdon, son of William and Tammie Logsdon was born September 30, 2004. Cameron’s middle name, Doan, comes from both of his grandpa’s “Do” for Doyle and “An” for Anthony. Poppi as Tony was affectionately known, loved to spend time with Cameron. They loved to fly fish together, shoot bb guns and enjoyed early morning breakfasts at Denny’s eating their favorite eggs, “asau”(sausage)and taters.
Tony and Louise owned and operated L&L Fast Service for over a dozen years before continuing his career in oil field safety training. After retiring Tony and Louise both enjoyed part time work delivering the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Dallas Morning News and the Wall Street Journal newspapers.
In the years after Louise passed, Tony spent his time with his family and friends; he loved to fish, go on drives with his friend Larry, mow his lawn and garden with friends Hector and Maria and even loved the occasional business adventure helping sell a few RV’s with his friend Jaimie during Midland’s last oil boom. He also joined the West Kentucky Baptist Church where the beloved Reverend Bob Porterfield is the pastor. There he re-connected with the Lord and attested his faith in Baptism.
Tony loved Louise’s family as his own and some of his fondest memories were playing softball for four years with brother-in-law Kenny also in the Air Force, hunting with his brother-in-law John and surprise visits from nephew Andy Koontz, currently serving in the US Army.
In 2015 Tony moved to the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring, Texas. There he enjoyed the company of many of his fellow veterans and was well cared for by the nurses and staff of the VA home. He loved to go on outings, especially to Walmart, shopping for Cameron, and supplying the VA home with some extra snacks, candy and even adding a bit of flavor making sure everyone had access to hot sauce and pickled jalapenos.
In December of 2016, Tony was diagnosed with vascular dementia and degenerative dementia. The disease progressed quickly, but he enjoyed many evenings with family. Tony’s faith in God, determination, and love of life were ever present throughout his battle with dementia.
