Artie (Arletta) Clutter passed peacefully on the 14th of May 2025 in Seminole, TX. She was 89 ½ years old. She was born on October 2, 1935, to Lovell and Martha (Haney) Twitchell in her home in Escalante, UT. She attended Escalante High School and graduated in 1953. She met John Clutter in September of 1953 when he was working in the oil fields around Escalante. They were married on December 11 of that year. John’s work as a petroleum geologist required them to move around the intermountain west during the early years of their marriage. During that time, they were blessed with four children who were the light of her life. She loved to spend time reading to them and sharing what she had learned with them.
In 1968 the family moved to Las Vegas, NV. There Artie began to work as a secretary. It was also there that she was given the nickname of Artie. The family then moved to Midland, TX in 1979. While there, she began working for Ellis Funeral Home. She worked there for 20 years, where her compassion touched many people. She also faithfully cared for her husband, John, through his many illnesses. He passed away in 2003 after 50 years of marriage.
Artie wrote in beautiful calligraphy; she painted with oils and watercolor and learned to tailor suits. She also loved to bake and was an excellent cook.
Artie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with her own children, as well as the many children and youth she was privileged to teach. After John’s passing, Artie served an 18-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Long Beach, CA. She loved her time in the mission field. After she completed her mission, she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law and resided in Seminole, TX until her passing.
Artie was a true friend and made many lifelong friends. She had a way of touching the hearts of those she met wherever she lived. She will be missed by her family and friends. We know that she is enjoying being united with Johnny and her family! Families really are eternal.
She is survived by her four children and in-laws, Mary and Kirk Anderson of Seminole TX, Richard Clutter, and Kristen Clifford of Mesa AZ, Robert and Laura Clutter of Richmond, TX, and David and Kathy Clutter of Broken Arrow OK. She is also survived by her fourteen wonderful grandchildren and nine precious great grandchildren. She is also survived by three siblings, DeAnn Gillies, Joy Tooman, and Craig Twitchell.
A memorial will be held Thursday May 22, 2025, at 6pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 100 NW Ave. J in Seminole TX. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday May 24, 2025 at 10am at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in 1701 Austin Hwy San Antonio, TX.
