

Bertha Lee Doyle Thurman, 78 years old, of Midland, Texas, was born on December 8, 1936 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late George Franklin Doyle and Fannie Bell Vannoy Doyle. Bertha passed away on June 10, 2015 of natural causes.
Bertha graduated from high school in Detroit, Texas in 1954. The family moved to Midland in 1956 where she attended Droghns Business School. Upon moving to Midland, Bertha, along with Ora Lee Watson, started the first Spanish mission in 1956. Ora Lee preached and Bertha played the piano. Bertha was a self-taught pianist.
Bertha worked as a bookkeeper for Seat Cover Ace for 20 years and Mervyns prior to the store closing.
On October 15, 1977, Bertha married the love of her life Bobby Odell Thurman in Midland, Texas. Bertha was a strong woman of faith, early in her marriage supporting her husband in his ministry. Bertha read her bible daily and listened to Gospel music. Bertha loved the Lord and witnessed to whoever she met. She and Bob had plans to travel to Nashville to pursue Bob’s love for music.
Bertha is survived by her husband Bob; her brothers Jerry Doyle (Joyce) and Robert Doyle (late Billie) both of Midland, Texas; her sisters-in-law Judy Barton (Buddy), Opal Sutton (Winford), Iva Glenn Tredway (late Clyde), Mona Maxwell (Richard) and Betty Henry. Bertha is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bertha is predeceased by her parents, George and Fannie, her brother Franklin and his wife Dorothy, and sister-in-law Billie Doyle.
Visitation will be held on Sunday June 14, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Ellis Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be Monday, June 15, 2015 at Resthaven Memorial Park North at 11:00 am.
