

Betty Hoover 88 passed away August 26, 2021 in Midland Texas after a struggle with dementia. She was born on February 6, 1933 in Echo Texas to Doss and Lillian Maples. She spent her childhood in various places in Coleman County Texas. Her family moved to Odessa Texas in the fifth grade. When she was in the seventh grade her family moved to Denver City Texas. Betty graduated Denver city high school in 1950 and was salutatorian. While in high school she played clarinet in the band and she also played tennis. After she graduated from high school, she graduated from Draughon’s Business School in Lubbock Texas in 1951. She then worked at Yoakum County State Bank in Denver city Texas. While at the bank she was introduced to her future husband Calvin Hoover by her neighbor and his uncle Hoyt Starling. They were married on May 31, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church in Denver City. They were married for 51 years until his death. In 1959 they moved to Andrews Texas. They started their family with the birth of her daughter Laura Hoover in 1962 and the birth of a son David Hoover in 1965. In 1966 they moved to Midland Texas and joined St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and the Keystone Class. In 1968 Betty was diagnosed with breast cancer and with the help of God and MD Anderson in Houston, she was cured and there was never a reoccurrence of cancer. Betty went back to work when her children became older. She worked for various companies among them Barnes Oil Company, Buckeye Drilling Company, Midland West Company and Sue Mullins Construction. Betty enjoyed painting and collecting rocks. Whenever someone would travel she would always ask them to bring her back a rock hence she has rocks from all over the world. Betty is preceded in death by her parents her husband Calvin Hoover her sister Hazle Holder and her brother-in-law Owen Holder she is survived by her daughter Laura Hoover of Midland Texas and her son David Hoover his wife Jennifer, two grandchildren Joshua Hoover and Katherine Hoover of Spring Texas. The family would like to thank Dr. Ganta and his staff and all the Visiting Angels that helped especially Anitriea, Mauri and Mildred. A public visitation for Betty will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy, Midland, Texas 79701. A funeral service will occur Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 3011 West Kansas Ave., Midland, Texas 79701. An interment will occur Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4616 N Big Spring St, Midland, Texas 79705.
