Betty A. Seals, of Midland, went to be with our Heavenly Father on March 30, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Betty was born on February 19, 1955 to Miguel and Carlota Reyes. She spent her childhood years in Kermit, Monahans, and Abilene Texas. The family settled in Midland where Betty completed high school and graduated from Midland High. After graduation, Betty moved to Dallas, Texas where she resided and attended Christ of the Nations. Betty returned to Midland where she began her family. Throughout her life she was employed by Key, Chevron, and the City of Midland where she worked as City Prosecutor and retired after 20 years in 2008.
She enjoyed lending a helping hand and was a volunteer through Crises Intervention Unit, Teen Challenge, American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and Christmas in Action.
To many she will be remembered as Betty “Boop”, “Be-Bet”, “Chupito”, “Pelotita”, “Lady” among a few others. She was quick to listen and slow to judge. She had an amazing spirit and there was just something about her that made you feel comfortable and secure. No matter what the situation, she always lent an ear and never made you feel as if it was a bother to her. So radiant that even complete strangers would confide in her. To those of you who knew her as a friend, you know what I mean when I say you had the blessing of having a life-long and loyal friend. Not only was she a “true” friend, but also a beloved daughter, mother and grandmother. She treasured the precious moments in silence between her and her mother. For they say that the greatest conversations take place when the mouth is silent and the heart is speaking.
Her children and grandchildren were her whole world. Michael; held the key to her heart, Christopher; the apple of her eye, and Adria; her reason behind fighting and not giving up hope. She lived her life to the fullest each day, always appreciative and grateful for all that came her way.
Her partner and other half, Camerino was her pride and joy. She looked forward to his jokes with his wonderful sense of humor. She always knew just what to come back with though. =) Always quick on her feet. She loved traveling, and would often say “the road is my thinking spot”. Annual trips to Luckenbach, Texas and Frio River were among her most favorite. A few of her hobbies included reading, writing her feelings in her journal, gambling with “Paco”, Mona and her mother.
You will always be remembered by the strength and courage held within. Your never ending smile, even through trials and tribulations. Your loving ways that radiated to others as well as your loving and dedication to your faith. You will remain in our hearts forever and will be greatly missed and never forgotten. You are a mighty woman of God, and now you are at peace. We love you forever and always, Mom. You are our Hero.
Betty is survived by her mother, Carlota Bernard Reyes of Midland; husband, Camerino Cruz; three children, Michael, Christopher and Adria Seals; three sisters, Lulu Garcia, Dee McCulum all of Midland, and Terri Vigil of Hobbs, NM; a brother, Jesse Reyes of Midland; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
