Surrounded with love by his wife, children & grandchildren; Bobby Donald Hughes went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 11, 2014 due to complications from a short bout with Leukemia.
Bobby was born in Lufkin, TX 75 years ago on June 30, 1938 to Roy E & C Ruth (Short) Hughes. He retired as a manager from Texas New Mexico Pipeline in 1994 with 28 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends on the golf course, game night or at his place in Rockport, TX where he loved to fish with everyone who wanted to go with him. It has been a special place for many years for his family to gather.
Bobby was an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon (Twice as Chairman) and also on committee’s too numerous to list. He served on many boards that affect persons with special needs because of his love for his son with special needs. He along with wife Yvonne were teaching 4th grade Sunday School up until his illness was diagnosed. He rejoiced as each of his kids (as he affectionately referred to them) would ask Jesus in to their hearts and let Him be boss of their lives.
Bobby’s heart was so full of love that he was blessed with the love of two wives. He is proceeded in death by his wife of 45 years Sheirran Francis Norton whom he married June 9, 1962 in Temple, TX and survived by his wife of 5 years Yvonne Eleanor Wagster Black whom he marries December 6, 2008 in Midland, TX
He leaves a legacy that will continue for generations to come. He leaves behind many that will reunite with him again in Heaven including daughter, Melisa (Lisa) & her husband Marcus Roberson; son Roddy & his wife Brookie (Lee) Hughes and son David Hughes. His actions far outweighed his words and he was the real deal when it came to actions. When his first wife Sheirran’s mother was killed leaving 3 minor children, he never hesitated once in taking them in and raising them, always referring to them as his children. So he also leaves behind, Michael & Linda Norton, Monette & Kenneth Harbert and Bobby Sherman. He gained more children upon his marriage to Yvonne to include Steve and Cheryl Black, Robin and Tom Bolander and Ronnie and Sharlene Black. There were a few that were blessed enough to call him Papaw. They include John & Jordan Roberson, Jennifer Roberson, Brandy Hughes, Justin Hughes, Taylor Harbert, Nolan Harbert, Carrie & Tony Lawerence, Lindsey Norton, Sarah Black, Amber Miller, Matt Miller & Tyler Black & his great-grandchildren Brooklee Sheir Hughes, Addison Kate Norton & Madyson Hope Crowe. He also leaves behind two sisters & their husbands, Barbara & James Brasuell, and Sharon & Glenn Tomblin and friends of 46 years Douglas and Jerri Hall many nieces and nephews whom all loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held at 5:30 to 7:30 Monday April 14, 2014 at Ellis Funeral Home. The Celebration of his life service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday April 15, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Midland, TX
