Bryce Hunter Nettles, 16, of Midland passed from our lives suddenly to return to his heavenly home on November 14, 2013. Bryce was born on March 4th 1997 to Jeremy Nettles and Cassie Flournoy Nettles Gerety. Right from the start he was perfect. Born naturally, everything seemed to go just as any normal family beginning would. But soon, Jeremy and Cassie would realize that God didn’t bless them with a normal child, but special angel. Bryce started to experience seizures at 5 months old. The doctors treated him with an arsenal of medications, diets and finally adding a VNS device for good measure to control the seizures. During his many treatments, he was diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. His brain was permanently damaged from thousands of intense seizures. By this time Jeremy and Cassie came to terms with their baby boy never being “normal” but unique. Keeping him comfortable and giving him the best quality of life possible was their goal in life. Bryce never spoke a word, drank out of bottles and Sippy cups, played with rattles, walked but not purposefully, always had to be fed, diapered and bathed. He was the toughest, sweetest, cuddliest child you would ever meet. Bryce was our rock and our strength. Bryce experience more trying times in his short 16 years than most people do in a lifetime. He outlived every life expectancy given.
He was preceded by his Grandfather, Richard Nettles, Great grandmother, Leona Stewart, and his uncle Burton Flournoy.
Bryce is survived by his Dad and step-mom, Jeremy Nettles and Brandi Carter of Midland, His Mom and Step-dad Cassie and Jim Gerety of Midland, His sisters, Renee & Lyn Nettles of Midland, His step-brothers Brennan Carter and Blake Carter of Midland, His step-sisters Katie Sims of Williston ND, Christine Rankin of Midland, Grandmother Brenda Nettles of Midland, Grandparents Thomas and Jackie Flournoy of Midland, Grandmother Ann Carter or Midland and Grandparents Richard and Martha Gerety of Upland CA, Uncles and aunts as follows: Tiffany Geisendorff of Houston, Don & Maria Flournoy of Midland, Mark Flournoy and Kathy Johnson of Midland, Randy & Kristi Flournoy of Midland, Rick and Deirdre Nettles of Midland, Tim and Molly Nettles of San Diego CA, Jason Carter of Midland, Sara Pauley of Norco, CA.
