Charlie Wright

Charles A. Wright, 89, of Midland, Texas, went to meet his Lord and Savior on October 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. A true cowboy at heart, Charlie lived a full and colorful life, marked by hard work, a love for the land, a spirit of adventure, and, above all, a deep and abiding love for his family.

Born on March 20, 1937, in Ivanhoe, Fannin County, Texas, to Walter and Thelma Wright, Charles was raised with the values that would guide him throughout his life: faith, family, loyalty, and the importance of an honest day's work.

On June 8, 1956, in Bonham, Texas, Charles married the love of his life, Ruth Downing. Together, they built a life and family that became his greatest pride and joy. Their union was blessed with four children.

Charlie was a cowboy in every sense of the word. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing, finding peace and happiness in the wide-open spaces of Texas. His working life reflected that same determination and dedication. Charles ran several feedlots in Hereford, Texas, building a reputation as a hardworking man who understood the agricultural business and the people who made it thrive. He later served for many years as superintendent of the Midland Farmers Co-op and later became manager, contributing his knowledge, experience, and strong work ethic to the agricultural community. In a later chapter of his career, he worked as an escort driver for Smith Trucking, continuing to do what he had always done best: show up, work hard, and see the job through.

But as much as Charlie loved his work and the cowboy life, his greatest treasure was his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him immeasurable happiness and gave him countless reasons to smile.

He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Ruth Wright; children, Stephen Wright and wife Alana and Sharon McCain and husband Tommy; his grandchildren, Shane & Wendy Cook, Randi & Matt Horton, Kasey & Jared Ivanhoe, and Cody McCain; and his great-grandchildren, Emalynn Horton, Dylan Cook, Jackson Cook, Brynlee Ivanhoe, and Cainen Ivanhoe.

Charles was preceded in death by his beloved daughters, Sandra Wright (twin of Sharon McCain) and Sheryl Jonas; his parents; and his siblings, Peggy Angell and Billie Wray Morrison.
