Charlotte Ann Gunter

Charlotte Ann Gunter went home to be with her heavenly father on November 17, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 5, 1951, in Lamesa, Texas, to Roy Allan “Hoot” and Mary Ruth Gibson. Charlotte was raised in Denver City, Texas, and was a long time resident of Greenwood and Midland. Charlotte married Russell Gunter in Denver City, Texas on June 13, 1970, and moved to Lubbock, Texas. They lived in Lubbock until they moved to Midland in 1973, where they resided until 1980. They then moved to Greenwood in 1980, and even though they moved back to Midland in 2003, Greenwood was and still is home. There was never a doubt that Charlotte’s life was her family. She loved them fiercely and unconditionally. Her husband, children, and grandchildren felt her love, compassion, and loyalty daily. Her grandchildren were completely devoted to her and her to them. Charlotte was one of the most wonderful people anyone could have ever known. Those that had the privilege of knowing her came away richer for the experience. She was kind to everyone, and accepted each person, warts and all. Her smile and laughter were contagious and her faith in God and inner strength were a source of inspiration for all that knew her. Through her employment at Greenwood schools, Charlotte touched the lives of all she came into contact with. A quality so rare in others, but was abundant in her, was her ability to make each person she loved feel that they were the most important person in the world. Charlotte was a valued employee of Greenwood Independent School District for many years until her retirement in 2006. She was also a proud member of the Greenwood Baptist Church. She is survived by her loving husband of forty-one years, Russell I. Gunter, and her daughter, Tonia Deann and husband Jimmy Martindale of Greenwood, Texas, her son Russell I. Gunter, II, and wife Sarah of Lubbock, Texas, and her daughter, Tiffany Dawn Gunter of Midland, Texas, and two grand-children, Kody and Kaci Martindale of Greenwood, Texas. She is also survived by her four brothers: Danny Gibson and wife Carrie of Rice, Texas; Ricky Gibson and wife Christine of Denver City, Texas, Mark Gibson of Odessa, Texas, and Kris Gibson and wife Sharon of Midland, Texas, Sister and Brother-in-law Cindi and Johnny Walker of Carlsbad, New Mexico. She is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy “Hoot” Allan and Mary Ruth Gibson. She was also preceded by her mother and father-in-law, Willard and Charlene Gunter. A funeral service is scheduled to take place on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 2:00pm at Greenwood Baptist Church (10908 FM 307, Midland, TX 79706). Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Charlotte requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of Midland, or the Salvation Army.
