Constance Cooper Thacker

Connie was born on July 21, 1925 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to Dr. William Mark Cooper and Louise Mills Cooper. She passed on Saturday, September 14, 2013. Connie and her family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma at an early age where her father practiced dentistry for many years. Connie attended Columbia Women’s College in Columbia, Missouri and Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, Oklahoma, now Oklahoma State University. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. After college she worked for Stanolind Oil Company in Tulsa. Connie met Jon Thacker on a blind date arranged by her sister Mary and Mary’s boyfriend Ed Cotham, soon to be Connie’s brother-in-law. They were married on August 28, 1948 at Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa, and spent 64 ½ years together. They moved to Goldsmith, Texas in 1950 and spent the next 33 years moving with Gulf Oil Corp. Connie and her family lived in Lafayette, New Orleans, Buras and Houma, Louisiana before returning to West Texas in 1977.

Connie’s interests included gardening, painting, needlework, reading books and sewing. She also enjoyed travel with Jon and playing golf along the way, visiting their cabin in Ruidoso, and socializing with the Wednesday Night “Bunch” from Green Tree Country Club. She particularly enjoyed her trip to Ireland with her two sisters, during which they toured castles and enjoyed each other’s company. She was proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and enjoyed visiting with them all.

She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church, Midland China Painting Guild, Green Tree Ladies Golf Association, Midland Rose Society, and Midland Panhellenic Association. Connie was a Pink Lady at Midland Memorial Hospital and volunteered in the gift shop for many years. She also enjoyed her work on the The Prism, a weekly church newsletter.

She is survived by her daughter Jeanne Campbell and her husband Tom of Midland, son Jon Mark Thacker and his wife Lisa of San Ramon, California, four grandchildren, Courtney Campbell Prescott of Midland, Jon Thacker of Chicago, Illinois, Christina Kline and her husband Philip of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Jennifer Thacker of North Hollywood, California, her four great grandchildren Catie, Denium, Skylar and Thomas of Midland, her sister Jean Williams of New Orleans, six nephews and her beloved cocker spaniel Molly.

Her parents, her husband Jon Thacker and her sister Mary Cotham precede Connie in death.

A private graveside service for Connie’s family will be followed by a celebration of her life on Friday September 20, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church in Midland at 1:30PM. Pastor Steve Schorr will preside at the memorial service, and a reception will follow.
