Darral J. “Pepaw” Albrecht, 87, of Midland passed away on January 21, 2014. He was born in Gonzales, Texas on February 28, 1926 to Eddie Albert Albrecht and Sida Voigt Albrecht. Darral attended Gonzales High School. He and Earlene Teel were married on November 6, 1952 and remained married for 40 years until her death on December 20, 1992. Darral worked on the family farm before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944. There he served until April 20, 1946 in the European Theater where he obtained the rank of Cpl. and was awarded two Bronze Star Medals and a Purple Heart Medal. Following his honorable discharge he worked as a roughneck in the oilfield. He then worked for El Paso Natural Gas Co. at a filling station. After their closing in the early 60’s, he opened Albrecht’s Texaco which he operated for 25 years. Following a short retirement, Darral worked at the Alignment Shop for many years until retiring for good in 2008.
Darral is preceded in death by his wife, Earlene; his parents; a sister, Janice Parke; a brother, Pete Albrecht; and one granddaughter, Brandi Dion Land.
Those left behind to honor and cherish his memory are his daughter, Deborah Land of Midland; his granddaughter, Molli Land of Overland Park, KS; his grandson, Bud Land of Midland; his brother, Weldon “Jack” Albrecht (Estelle) of Seguin, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
