A memorial service is scheduled for 2 pm at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 1600 N. A Street, Midland, Texas.
Skipper was born August 19, 1945 in Midland to Henry and Betty Goulet who preceded him in death.
He attended St. Ann’s Elementary, Alamo Jr. High, Midland High and then graduated from Lee High School in 1963. While at Lee High he received several awards for student service projects. He served on the school newspaper “The Dixie Dispatch” and won a first place award for best feature story from the Texas Interscholastic League.
In 1963 he attended Odessa College also serving on the school paper “The Roundup” and was employed by local radio stations as well. In 1968, he won a “Key Station Award” from the Associated Press and he transferred to Lubbock in the fall to Texas Tech University. He graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. While he was there, he won several broadcast awards including “Outstanding Newsperson” at KTXT Campus Radio. After graduation, he continued in the graduate program as a teaching assistant in the school of Mass Communication. During this period, he established a standby ambulance service, an emergency training program and worked closely with the Boy Scouts Explorer Post in Lubbock.
He returned to Midland in 2004 and has resided there since.
He had a passion for Journalism and Emergency Response. These fields brought him in contact with many people throughout his life.
He is survived by cousins Normand Goulet and Patricia Springer and husband Michael both of Odessa, as well as many lifelong friends.
