Dessie Wilson was born May 27, 1930 in Midland, Texas. She was the youngest of thirteen children born to Rose Emily and Daniel Alexander Casbeer. She met the love of her life, Carl Wilson, in Midland in 1950. They married on September 23, 1950 in Lovington, New Mexico. They remained married until Carl’s passing in 1996.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She raised Chihuahuas and groomed dogs for several years. She had many loyal customers that she considered friends. However, her favorite role in life was that of grandma. Some of the greatest memories her grandchildren share are looking after turtles in the backyard, learning to read Green Eggs and Ham, getting dolled-up in her homemade salon, putting on plays for her amusement, waiting on and meeting new puppies and midnight movies in a downtown Midland theater. Her grandchildren had nicknames for her including “Pinkie” and “OWL.”
Dessie’s favorite activity in life was playing games that involved strategy. She spent extensive hours having potlucks and playing games with life-long friends at the Hospice facility. Her best fun and some of our most hilarious memories were made at family game nights. She always insisted on buying dinner and having as many people at the table as possible. She played to win and never cut anyone any slack.
Mom was an avid storyteller and loved to share with all of us stories of the “olden days.” These stories, some hilarious, others poignant, helped link us to our ancestors and gave us a picture of who she really was, a vibrant, faithful and loving woman. She had a deep faith in God and was confident in her final destination. She looked forward to being reunited in heaven with her husband Carl.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Wilson, a son Dale Wilson, a daughter Brenda Martinez, a great-grandson Bradley Norton, 12 brothers and sisters, and her parents Emily Rose and Daniel Alexander Casbeer.
She is survived by her daughter Becky Blakes (Jonathan) of Midland, Texas, 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 16th from 4-8 pm at Ellis Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 17th at 11 am at Resthaven Memorial Park with Pastor Michael Sanchez officiating.
