Diane Elizabeth Rommel Sager

Diane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose deep faith and love for her family were at the center of her life.

Diane graduated from Mount Mercy Academy in Buffalo, New York, in 1964. After high school, she attended surgical technology school and later continued her education at Midland College, earning her RN in 1984. She dedicated more than 30 years to Midland Memorial Hospital, working in surgery, testing and diagnostics, and same-day surgery. She retired in 2012 to enjoy one of the roles she treasured most—being a full-time, loving, and spoiling grandma.

Diane married David John Sager on May 20, 1967, at St. Williams Catholic Church in West Seneca, New York. Together, they built a life filled with love and family and recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. In 1977, Diane and her family moved from West Seneca to Midland, Texas, where they made their home.

A woman of strong faith, Diane was a devoted parishioner of St. Ann’s Catholic Church for 49 years. She enjoyed reading, traveling, shopping for antiques, gardening, collecting unique and wonderful items, decorating for the holidays, and, above all, spoiling her grandchildren.

Diane is survived by her beloved husband, David John Sager of Midland; her son, David Joseph Sager of Midland; her daughters, Jill Marcantel and husband Kevin Kosta Marcantel of El Paso, and Janis Harrington and husband Kevin Harrington of Midland; her brother, James Rommel and wife Theresa Rommel of Davenport, Florida; her grandchildren, Joshua Harrington, Kelsey Harrington, Kara Marcantel, Kendall Harrington, Ryan Marcantel, Justin Harrington, and Keri Harrington; and sisters-in-law, Caroline Sager Low of Lakeland, FL and Marie Sager Ramey of West Seneca, NY.

She is also survived by her nieces, Allison Olofson, Jennifer Heppel, Debbie Sager, Kathy Sager, Nancy Sager, and Judy Hernandez; and nephews, Andrew Rommel, Tim Rommel, Wes Dust, David Ramey, Joel Ramey, and Don Ramey.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Henry George Rommel and Iris Marie Long Rommel; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Marcantel; father-in-law, Harry Sager; mother-in-law, Julia Doster Sager; sisters-in-law, Grace Sager Dust, Ruth Sager and Erma Sager Fitzpatrick; brothers-in-law, Walter Sager and Albert Sager; and her nieces, Julia Ramey Storch and Cynthia Dust Anderson.

Her love of family, deep faith, and overwhelming love and pride in her grandchildren will remain her legacy. Diane will be deeply missed and forever loved.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff of Legacy Ranch and Home Hospice for the compassionate care, kindness, and dignity they showed Diane.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the St. Ann’s Catholic School Scholarship Fund in Diane’s memory.

Active pallbearers will be David Joseph Sager (son), Joshua Harrington (grandson), Ryan Marcantel (grandson), and Justin Harrington (grandson). Honorary pallbearers will be James Rommel (brother), Kevin Kosta Marcantel (son-in-law), and Kevin Harrington (son-in-law).

The Rosary will be recited at St. Ann's Catholic Church on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 7:00 PM. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 28th at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's followed by inurnment in the church columbarium.
