On Friday, January 22, 2021, Dixie Tankersley passed away at the age of 92. Dixie was born on June 20, 1928, in Hyman, Texas. On December 24, 1947, she married her true love Waymon Laddell/Jack Tankersley in Sweetwater, Texas.
They moved to Midland in 1977. They raised 5 children; Gene, Judy, Toni, Anna Kay, Charlie, and granddaughter, Amber Brown.
Dixie loved to sit on her porch with a hot cup of coffee, watering her flowers, working a word search puzzle, listening to the birds, waiting on lunch and visiting with Meals on Wheels, as well as visiting with her friends and neighbors who all knew her as Granny.
Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and 2 sons, Gene and Charlie Tankersley. Dixie is survived by 3 daughters; Judy (Earl) Rhea of Kingsbury, Toni (Bud) McCurdy of Midland/Greenwood, and Anna Kay (Curtis) Brown of Illinois; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter due in April.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation for all the love shown throughout the years by Special friends, Susan Sanford and family, and Julia Badal. The family would like to thank Midland Medical Lodge for their care over the last 5 years. A special thank you to Interim Hospice Jessica Sotelo and Misty Olvera for their compassion, comfort, and love over this past month.
Pallbearers will be son-in-law Bud McCurdy, grandsons Waymon Tankersley, Laddell Tankersley, Kevin Rhea, Kasey Rhea, and Bradley Tankersley, and honorary pallbearer Earl Rhea.
Visitation with family will take place on Wednesday, February 3rd, from 5pm to 7pm at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 4th, at 10am at Stonegate Fellowship in Midland. Burial will take place at Dunn Cemetery in Dunn, Texas at 2pm following the funeral service.
