Edgar Jefferson Crawford Jr., affectionately known as Ed, passed away in Midland, Texas, on November 12, 2025. He was born on June 2, 1928, in Waco, Texas, to Fannie Simons Crawford and Edgar Jefferson Crawford Sr.
Ed graduated from La Vega High School in 1946 and, at the age of 18, enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served his country faithfully from 1946 to 1949, earning an honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In 1958, Ed began a long and dedicated career with the Midland Fire Department, ultimately retiring as a fire captain. Prior to joining the department, he moved his family from Waco to Midland and worked in the oilfield industry.
In September 1950, Ed married the love of his life, Bobbie Crawford. They shared a devoted marriage until her passing in 1992.
Ed was a longtime member of Kellview Heights Baptist Church. In his retirement, he enjoyed gunsmithing, small-engine repair, fishing, and hunting—pursuits that reflected his lifelong curiosity and love of the outdoors.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Blackaller and Donna Hartman, and Donna’s husband, Doug Hartman; his grandsons, Miles Hartman and Sam Blackaller, and Miles’ wife Elizabeth; his great-granddaughters, Madeliene and Miriam; and great-grandson Ryan.
Ed Crawford will be remembered for his service, his craftsmanship, his love for his family, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ellis Funeral Home. Graveside services will take place at Resthaven Memorial Park at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
