Emilia Garcia Cuevas

Emilia G. Cuevas, 78, of Midland, Texas faithfully went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday June 21, 2013. Emilia was born in Melvin, TX on December 21, 1934.

She graduated from Melvin High School in 1953. She married the love of her life Jose Cuevas, Sr. on January 24, 1953 in Melvin, Texas. Emilia earned her nursing degree from the Community College of Denver in Denver, CO in 1973. She took great comfort and pleasure in serving her patients throughout her 30 years of nursing. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Midland, TX. She enjoyed being active in the community, received recognition by the Midland Senior Services as a foster grandparent and Casa de Amigos as a liaison. Her greatest joy in life was serving the Lord and sharing her love with all her siblings, children, their families and countless nieces and nephews. Emilia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was beloved by all her family and friends who will cherish memories of how she loved to sing, dance, and joke around. Emilia leaves behind a legacy of how a family should be.

Emilia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose Cuevas, Sr., her parents, Genaro and Emilia R. Garcia, 6 brothers, 3 sisters, and her grandson, Isaac J. Holguin and grandson-in-law, Joshua R. Urias.

Emilia is survived by her sons, Genaro (Henry) Cuevas of Crawfordsville, IN, Jose Cuevas, Jr. and wife Diane of Midland, TX, Rolando G. Cuevas of Midland, TX and Alexander Cuevas of Midland, TX; her daughters, Emilia K. Cuevas of Midland, TX, Carolyn Moreno and husband Marcos of Midland, TX, Christina Garcia and husband Erasmo of Midland, TX, and Carla Holguin of Arlington, TX.; her two brothers, J.C. Garcia of Lincoln, AK and Dario Garcia of El Paso, TX; three sisters: Lupe Roman of Baytown, TX, Louisa Rosetti of Long Island, NY and Lydia Ortiz of Abilene, TX; 30 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A Life ceremony will be held at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel at 6:30pm on Wednesday June 26, 2013 with a rosary to follow at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held on September 28th, 2013 in Eden, TX.
