He was born in Alba, Texas to Herbert and Ora Wolfe, but Thackerville, Oklahoma was his home growing up. He had nine brothers and one sister. He loved playing baseball with his brothers, and a domino game was always going on. The stories he shared were of the "Wolfe" boys getting into trouble, somewhere, somehow. He grew up on a farm of very humble means, but never felt like he lacked for anything.
He met Doris Jean Morgan at school in Thackerville, and they married June 10th, 1952. He worked at Whites Auto store in Ardmore, Oklahoma before enlisting in the Air Force. He served in Alaska during the Korean War. They returned to Oklahoma in 1955, where he went to work for Samedan Oil Corporation, a subsidiary of Noble Energy. They transferred them to Midland, Texas in 1958, where Frank and Jean lived and raised their girls.
He loved working for Samedan and the relationships he had there. They were like a second family to him. He was a land man for the company until his early retirement in 1986. After that he worked contract for many oil companies around Midland, until 2008, but Samedan would always have a special place in his heart.
They joined Crestview Baptist Church in 1958, where Frank became a deacon and served faithfully. He loved Crestview and shared his faith and love of God with so many people. His legacy was the example that he lived. His children and grandchildren all came to accept Christ as their Savior at Crestview and were all baptized there. His grandchildren and their families heard the call of the Lord on their lives to serve in their respective vocations.
Frank loved to play softball on the Crestview team and made many memories with his teammates. Many nights were spent under the lights at Hogan Park and A&W root beer afterwards. He loved to fish and hunt, play cards and dominoes, and no one liked to play with him, because he always won.
Frank always had a joke or funny story, and was always laughing and giving people a "hard time"! You knew he liked you if he joked and kidded with you. He always tried to make the best of a situation and was a very sympathetic and emotional Dad and Grandfather. They were usually "happy tears", but they came pretty easily.
The one thing he loved the most was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Christopher and Morgan. He enjoyed taking them on trips, watching Lee High School halftime shows, choir concerts, dance recitals, youth choir, praise band and whatever they were involved in. They were a blessing to his life, as he was to their's.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Wolfe; daughter, Rachel Etheredge and husband Ken,(all of Midland) daughter: Kim Wolfe,(of San Angelo); grandson, Christopher and wife: Laura Beth Etheredge, and their children: Luke and Caroline(of Andrews); granddaughter, Morgan and husband Nathan Clardy, and their children: Lela, Eli, Josiah and Faith, (of South East Asia); one brother, Tom Wolfe of Gainesville, Texas; one sister, Helen Rodgers of Plainview ,Texas , and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight of his brothers: Merle, Cotton, Bill, Olan, Paul Ray, Jim, Wallace, and Travis Wolfe.
There will be a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Ellis Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Crestview Baptist Church on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Ken James officiating.
