OBITUARY

George Valton Anderson Sr.

September 15, 1924October 17, 2011

George Valton Anderson, Sr. was born September 15, 1924 to Ira Curtis and Hester Anderson in Midland, Texas. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 17, 2011. He often commented about graduating fourth grade from South Ward School in Midland which was the extent of his formal schooling. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946 when he was honorably discharged. George’s hard work and determination to succeed in life was never deterred by his lack of education. Instead, he learned from reading farming magazines, researching the newest technology, pushing through the tough times and just plain hard work. George was blessed to celebrate and enjoy his 87th birthday with his annual catfish fry, surrounded by numerous family and friends. On March 11, 1944, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Rae Smith in Stanton. They were married 65 year before she passed away in 2009. Together they had 3 children, Barbara Carol, Judith Ann, and George V. Anderson Jr. With Dorothy by his side, they farmed cotton south of Midland from 1959 until he retired from full time farming in 2002. At the age of 84, he was still climbing into an excavator, grubbing mesquite on a daily basis and putting in a solid 40 hours per week because he enjoyed working. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Barbara Roberts; two brothers, Elmo and Arden Ray (Tuffy) Anderson; two sisters, Kate Woods and Faye Marie Wilson; and two granddaughters, Shirley Ann Coots and Sherri Coots Leonard. He is survived by his daughter, Judy Coots (Joe); son, George V. Anderson, Jr. (Diann); six grandchildren, Shelley, Trudy, Tonya, Tammy, Joe Jr., and Alvin; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Serving as pallbearers are Cody Wilson, Donald Wilson, Sandy Wilson, Shane Wilson, Ronnie Woods, and Johnny Midkiff. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Smith, Fred Hall, Wayne Wilson, and Danny Howard. Special thanks to Lucy Torres for her loving care. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 from 6-8pm at Ellis Funeral Home. Services are planned for Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 10am at Ellis Funeral Home with Robert Frazier officiating with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Memorials may be directed to the Midland Memorial Hospice Unit. Condolences may be made at: www.ellisfunerals.com.
