July 10, 1936 - July 7, 2026
Jacqueline Ann Wise, 89, of Midland, Texas, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 7, 2026. She was born on July 10, 1936, in Lyons, Kansas, to Jack Winfield McElroy and Betty Lou Newman McElroy.
Jacque spent her early childhood in Kansas before her family relocated to Oklahoma. She attended Shawnee High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and served as an officer in Tri-Hi-Y. After graduating in 1954, she attended Oklahoma State University (then Oklahoma A&M) for one year before transferring to the University of Central Oklahoma, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
Following graduation, Jacque moved to Orange County, California, to begin her teaching career. Over the years, she taught first through fifth grades as well as junior high history. One of the highlights of her career was teaching for two years at the United States Air Force base in Okinawa, Japan. She treasured the memories and friendships from her years in both California and Japan and often spoke fondly of those experiences.
While living in Huntington Beach, California, Jacque met Bill Wise, an electrical engineer working for Humble Oil. Bill had children from a previous marriage, Jon and Susan, whom Jacque loved dearly. After they married, the couple moved to Midland, where their daughter, Jill, was born in 1969.
As life in the oil industry often requires, the family moved several times over the years, living in Hobbs, New Mexico; Andrews, Texas; Houston, Texas; and Stavanger, Norway, before returning to Midland in 1982, where Jacque lived for the remainder of her life.
Wherever they lived, Jacque devoted herself to her family and community as a wife, mother, and volunteer. She was actively involved in Jill's schools, volunteered countless hours, and faithfully served in the PTA. She was also a devoted member of First Baptist Church Midland, where she participated in Bible studies, mission trips, committees, and numerous volunteer ministries over many decades.
After Jill left for college, Jacque returned to the classroom and taught elementary students at Jane Long Elementary and Emerson Elementary. A lifelong learner, she continued taking classes at Midland College and Manor Park well into her later years. She loved reading, traveling, scrapbooking, playing games, completing crossword puzzles, and studying God's Word.
Jacque was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gary McElroy; and her beloved husband, Bill Wise.
Those left to cherish her memory and rejoice in the promise of reunion in heaven include her daughter, Jill and son-in-law Jason Bellomy; her stepson, Jon and daughter-in-law Barbara Wise; and her stepdaughter, Susan and son-in-law Keith Lynch, along with many dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love, laughter, and steadfast faith.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church Midland on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Midland Benevolence Fund, Denison Ministries, Hospice of Midland, or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
