

James W. "Jim" Jordan, of Midland, Texas passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012. He passed away peacefully at his home with his son, daughter, and son-in-law by his side after a yearlong battle with cancer. Jim was born October 14, 1937 in St. Louis, Oklahoma to Tom and Edith Jordan. The family moved to the West Texas oil fields in 1949.
Jim graduated from high school in Jal, New Mexico in 1955. He then attended Sul Ross University, Eastern New Mexico University, and Oklahoma Central State.
Jim joined the U. S. Navy in 1958 and served aboard the U. S. S. Hancock C. V. A. – 19, where he advanced to FT – PO2 in electronics. He was honorably discharged in September 1962. He enjoyed his naval service and was very proud and patriotic. He believed it was his duty to serve and protect the greatest country in the world. During his service, he visited many places including Hawaii, Guam, the Philippine Islands, Hong Kong, and many Japanese ports. After his service he was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone out of Oklahoma City until 1965 when he moved to Midland. He was then employed by Mobil Oil Corporation.
He married Doris Wallace on July 2, 1965. They had two children.
Jim took early retirement in 1990 to care for his ailing wife. He had always enjoyed woodworking and started up a small business selling items at craft shows in West Texas and New Mexico. He then expanded to sterling silver jewelry and framed prints. He especially enjoyed participating in the Seminole Trade Days in Seminole, Texas and Old Sorehead Trade Days in Stanton, Texas and visiting with the many friends he made there. He truly loved West Texas.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Edith Jordan; his wife, Doris Jordan; sister, Laveta Tiffin; nephew, Gary Tiffin.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Jordan of Midland; his daughter, Leslie Sorrel and son-in-law, Phillip Sorrel of Midland; and his beloved dog, Sam.

Family will receive friends on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Ellis Funeral Home. The graveside service is planned for Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 3:00pm at Resthaven Memorial Park with Mary Wallace officiating. Pallbearers will be: Mike Murray, Carl Curtis, Butch Ragsdale, Joe Garcia, Mickey Sorrel, and Mike Patton. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home of Midland.
