James (Jim) H. Summer, Jr. passed away November 28, 2012 at his home in Midland, TX. Jim was born February 20, 1933 in Mirando City, TX to James H. Summer, Sr. and Mary Virginia Summer. He grew up in a Mobil Oil camp in Freer, TX where he graduated high school. Then, in 1950, Jim attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville on a football scholarship where he played college ball for the Javelina’s. He also met his bride, Jean Hall from Snyder, while attending A&I. Jim and Jean were married on January 20, 1953 in Monte Alto, TX. He then enlisted in the Marine Corps in May of 1953, where he served in Korea and Japan. After the Marine Corps, Jim went back into the oil field for Humble Oil Company. After 37 years, he retired as a Drilling Superintendent with Exxon. Since that time, he spent his time traveling with the love of his life in their motor home, and western swing dancing.
Jim is preceded in death by a son, Mark Summer; his parents and one sister.
Those left behind to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Jean Summer; son, Keith Summer and wife Judy of Midland; daughter, Cindy Reed and husband Phillip of Midland; grandson, Jeremy Watkins of Tulsa, OK; granddaughters, Lauren Ashley and husband Justin of Midland and Toya Bishop and husband Jeremy of Midland; great-grandchildren, Hailei Kai, Kyler Chance and McKinley Grace; brother, Carl Summer and wife Barbara of Bethany, OK; sister, Margaret Clinton and husband Jon of Broken Bow, OK.
Jim was a very loving family man with a strong work ethic and proud to be called a United States Marine- Semper Fi.
A graveside service will be held Friday, November 30, 2012 at 3:00pm at Resthaven Memorial Park. Online condolences may be offered at www.ellisfunerals.com.
