Janie Frances Manning Etheredge, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, February 6, 2016 Funeral services will be February 13, 2016 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel, Midland, Texas with Janie’s grandson Pastor Christopher A. Etheredge officiating. Visitation will be Friday, February 12th from 6-8 pm at Ellis Funeral Home.
Janie was born in Midland, TX, February 23, 1930, to her loving parents, Archie Addas Manning and Mary Frances Norwood Manning. She professed her life to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of the Golf Road Church of Christ in Midland.
Janie graduated with the class of 1947 from Midland High School. In June of 1949 Janie married Troy Dee Etheredge. Troy was her soulmate and best friend for 50 years. She was a homemaker and mother in her early years participating in the Midland County Home Demonstration Club. Once her family was raised she ventured into the business world, becoming branch manager of Citizen’s Savings & Loan (later known as Home Savings) as well as taking an active role in the Midland Altrusa Club. After Troy’s death in 2000 she was a volunteer with Hospice as a grief counselor. Janie was born in Midland where she lived most of her life until the fall of 2010 when she moved to Waco, TX.
Janie was always ready to open her home to family and friends for holidays, birthdays, Dallas Cowboy football games, or to place to play games, one of her favorite being a good game of “42.” Every season or festivity of the year was fuller recognized with décor throughout her home. She loved “what-nots.” There was always plenty of good food served and most of the time topped off with delicious desserts and homemade ice cream. It was nothing to have 20 to 30 people gather together for a noisy good time.
Janie was preceded in death by her loving husband Troy Dee Etheredge, her daughter, Phyllis Sue Etheredge, her loving and caring parents and her sister Edith Lee and brother, Tommy Joe Manning.
Janie is survived by her brother, Robert A. Manning and sister-in-law, Joy Woodward Manning of Sterling City, TX, and brother Lewis A. Manning of Bogotá, Columbia. Her three children, Kathryn Ann Etheredge Mashburn and her husband Dennis Wade Mashburn of Abilene, Texas; Troy Kendrick Etheredge and his wife Rachel Wolfe Etheredge of Midland, Texas; and Frances Etheredge Malone and her husband James Kevin Malone of Waco Texas. She is also survived by 6 grand children, 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom loved her and will miss her greatly, but are assured of God’s promise that we will see her again.
Pallbearers will be Janie’s Grandsons Christopher A. Etheredge and Austin J. Malone and her nephew’s D. Alan Manning, Robert N. Manning, Treg P. Manning, Todd J. Manning, Tim N. Manning and Treg A. Manning
