

Jesse W. Wright Jr., of Midland and San Antonio, passed away in San Antonio August 28, 2011. Mr. Wright was a native of Muskogee, Oklahoma but spent his early years in Upsure County, Texas before moving to Wichita Falls where he graduated from High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, receiving a commission after graduating from Midshipman School at Northwestern University. After the war he continued his education at the University of Texas where he was ranked among the upper 3% of the College of Arts and Science. After graduation he was employed by Stanolind Oil and Gas Company where after having served as both a Senior Geologist and Senior Geophysicist he became the Geophysical Coordinator for the Midland District of the Permian Basin. He resigned from Stanolind to fulfill his life’s goal of becoming an independent oil and gas explorationist. During his career he was directly or indirectly responsible for the discovery of several oil and gas fields including the Phil Wright Field in Dawson County which was named in memory of his youngest son who predeceased him. Prior to retiring, Mr. Wright was a member of many professional organizations including the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Exploration Geophysicists, West Texas Geological Society, Permian Basin Geophysical Society, and the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientist. Mr. Wright was also a member of the San Antonio Country Club and the Petroleum Club of Midland.
He is survived by his wife, Earline S. Wright of Midland; a son, Randal Jesse Wright of Dallas; a grandson, Randal Patrick Wright of Dallas; a sister, Mrs. Vanchie Reisor of Dallas; and 5 nieces and nephews. His sister Belly Vollmer of Florida predeceased him.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, Texas, at 11:00 AM.
