Jessie F. Hobbs

Jessie Faye Gibson Hobbs was born on May 24, 1916 and ascended to the arms of God on January 2, 2014. She was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, in East Texas. She was raised in the years of the Great Depression.

What her family lacked in monetary wealth, they made up for in family love. They worked side by side picking cotton to keep their family fed. Each one had their daily chores to do to keep daily life going for a family of 11. Her routine began with her daily chores right up to her last days. Even then, she kept to a strict schedule.

She married her school teacher Clifton Hobbs on October 21, 1933. She was a loving mother and good homemaker. She always wanted all of her family near and to be kept updated on every single one. She had a quick wit and mischievous personality. She had the funniest sayings and loved to have fun. She loved God and had completed reading the Bible 100 times on November 20, 2013, even as her eyesight failed. She touched the lives of many with her great compassion and love for others. She lived by the Golden Rule. Nobody ever left her house hungry. She loved reminiscing and had a sharp memory to the very end.

She is preceded in death by her parents William Brinkley Gibson and Melinda Ann Martin Gibson; Siblings: James C. Gibson, Linnie Griffin, Jeff R. Gibson, Gordon R. Gibson, William Lesly Gibson, Bertha E. Slaton, Ruth D. McClintock, Winona Gill; Infant Son: Howard D. Hobbs; Son: Jerry F. Hobbs; Husband: Clifton E. Hobbs.

She is survived by her daughters Joann (Charles) Schoolcraft from Midland, TX, Mary Dallas from Midlothian, TX, Paula Grimmes from Midland, TX; Daughter-in-Law: Carla McLeod Hobbs from Midland, TX; 11 Grandchildren: Eldon Schoolcraft (Shelia), Pam Medulla (Danny), Penny Driggers (Steven), Patricia Hobbs (Peggy Moore), Brian C. Hobbs, Joel C. Hobbs (Jennifer), Robyn Dallas, Jennifer Laurence (Shawn), Jay Dallas (Shannon), Thomas Alder (Barbie), Kari Grimmes (Matt Shrum); 16 Great Grandchildren: Cory Medulla, Jerrod Medulla, Cooper Schoolcraft, Nicole Schoolcraft, Jeremiah Driggers Micah Driggers, Sarah Hobbs, Ethan Hobbs, Clif Gillaspia, Connor Gillaspia, Jade Laurence, Shane Laurence, Cami Dallas, Katherine Dallas, Ava Dallas, and Duncan Alder.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel.
